Songs that you never realized had good basslines...

No one has mentioned. Black Capricorn Day by Jamiroquai. If you haven't listened to that song, especially the bass line, you're missing something. It's funky and smooth.

The things we do for our kids

My son and I started out something like that and now that he's grown we host an open mic together every Sunday night at a local club. It's great to be able to make music with your kids.

vintage hagstrom I bass grounding/humming issue?

I've corrected the problem on my old Hagstrom basses by grounding the output jack. I took a short screw, soldered a piece of wire to it. screwed it in to the body under the pickguard where it won't be seen and soldered the other end to the output jack or to the chrome sleeve that the output...

those screws were a sort of crude way of adjusting string height. if it feels right, they're ok, but the action can be raised or lowered with the screws. Love those Hags

    The Official Hagstrom Bass Club

My first bass was a Hagstrom Swede. I still have it, along with 7 or 8 more I've collected over the years. I have an HIIBN, 2 Swedes, an H 1 A and and H 1 B, a Viking and a new FXB 530, plus several vintage Hagstrom guitars. I'll put up a few pics if i can get them to work.

    New Les Paul Bass?

Does anyone know what the lower bout measures on that new Gibson oversized Les Paul bass? I"ve looked at the specs on the company website and it isn't given. I don't want the guitar but I need a case for one of my Hagstrom Swede Basses, which looks the same, but the lower bout measures 14 1/2...

Why are people naming their basses female names?

I don't name my basses but my wife named one for me that has stuck over time. When I bought this bass on ebay i was bidding on it early in the morning and accidentally put in a maximum bid of $30,000.00. Thank God I didn't have to actually pay that much, but in order that i never forget that...

The AFM (musicians' union) - pros & cons?

Not all locals do this, but my local,(580,Clarksburg, WV) just abolished work dues for local musicians. That was a big plus for us. There are union gigs available that will earn you enough to more than reimburse you for your local and national dues, so basically it's free to belong. Several...

How Fast Do You Go Through Strings?

i have several basses and use different guitars for different gigs, but i replace the strings on all of them about every 6 months. I like the way new strings sound. It seems like they lose the lowest lows and highest highs after a while.

    acoustic electric bass strings

I've been playing electric basses for years, but just bought my first acoustic electric bass. It came with Bronze wound strings, but I'm thinking of putting tape wounds on it. I've hooked up with a Rockabilly band and I will be using this bass whenever the stand-up bass is not being played...

    Do you play guitar?

I play acoustic guitar and sometimes do a one man band thing with it, or host open mic nights. I never really had the talent to play lead. Playing bass is always my first choice.
