Age of a Kustom III Bass Head

I was just given one a few hours ago, so I got online to do some homework on it, and here I am. I just went to the VintageKustom.com site and looked up my serial. I have 209578, placing it early in 1979 production. What's your serial #? Check the bottom of the list, "black tolex, black...

WTT Ampeg Baby Bass for Kay C-1

Anyone in the southeast U.S. interested in an Ampeg BB-4 (Baby Bass) electric upright? I want to trade this one, ser#002239, and have lots of pics for details. I'm looking for a Kay C-1 in good shape. The serial # on the Ampeg puts its production at late '67 or very early '68. It has original...

    Double Bass Baby Bass megathread

To answer the orig. questions... The "thud" of the Baby Bass is a very short sustain that has a strong attack. It is percussive, like hitting a wooden cajone...with lots of tone range. I liken it to a good bass singer in a doowop quartet, too. The pickups are unique and need to be...

    Double Bass Baby Bass megathread

Had to respond to this, having already wrestled with my BB4 for years. Do not alter your instrument. I thought that since it was an electric with a pickup that all I needed was to adjust the pickup and all would be fine. I found a set of instructions (glad to share if you want, just PM) for...

What kind of bass is Page playing?

I checked out the video and froze it on a closeup of the headstock (with the Les Paul in the direct bkgd!). I didn't see the Framus badge or logo. Could just be missing. I like the bass, though.

Need help identifying a Teisco Del Ray Bass

Yep, that's an EB-110, "tulip" body style, and here's one I just saw on craigslist for sale. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] i kinda like 'em.

    new flea bass

Before I participated in any "old guy with money" snobbery, I checked out the site for fleabass. I'm down with the concept. I probably won't buy this bass, but I like the concept, especially that a guy with endorsement opp.s out the wazoo is going exclusive with a bass to support a non-licensed...

    Jerry Jones Longhorn 4 - should I or shouldn't I

I have a Joel Grant custom Longhorn and yeah, like pjmuck says, there is a great tone, but it's different. Great for older and roots stuff. I have LaBella tape wounds on mine, and can't say enough about how they help enhance the Longhorn tone. Don't be shy about getting a Longhorn, esp. a JJ.

Framus educate me quickly! Pending purchase.

Alright. The gamble paid off. $110 purchase price and about $40 in rehab supplies, $35 for a proper setup= $185 total for a nice playing bass with a solid neck, quiet electronics, and a very unique tone that I enjoy. Why someone would spray paint over mahogany baffles me. When I got her...

    LOUD..going...going....GONE

I'm not going to worry about why, but I can remember being able to call directly at SLM and speak to the same person about a specific model (in my case, the SVT400T) and I could get support like I'd never dreamed. Replacement manuals, emails, phone calls, you name it. With Loud? Best of luck...

    LOUD..going...going....GONE

You'll get an amen from me on that. This could be just THE disruption in a bad pattern that puts the Mackie and Ampeg brands in the hands of people that care more. Let the great stuff endure and the weak stuff fall by the wayside. Oh, and let the little guys doing great stuff get their foot in...

Dear lord, what have I done?

Like a lot of the others, I'm interested in seeing how this one turns out, especially after having owned a black Kramer Duke in the late eighties. Before you get too much of the hardware on, try finishing your wood with Tru-Oil, by Birchwood-Casey. It's a gunstock finishing oil that really...

Framus educate me quickly! Pending purchase.

Followup: I bought the Framus S-375 for $110 and nothing else. It's all orig. hardware, and solid, w/ no neck or electric issues. I'll follow up with rehab pics and info. Thanks for everyone weighing in.

Framus educate me quickly! Pending purchase.

Thanks for the guidance, folks. I'm packin' up the laptop and I'll be checking out the gear in a few hours. Grabbin' some cash. And Woffle, it's OK. Some days we trade up, some days we trade down. And yeah, I hope she's kidding, too.
