Fellow Shorty fans, question for you:
I have a hankering for a mustang, black with a maple board. There is one for sale as that color is a CME exclusive, but it is a PJ.
Since I want a regular mustang, could I get a loaded pick guard from a Vintera from the stratosphere and then just plug it...
I know you say you aren't judging anyone, but the OP comes across that way. I can be happy for you and the super expensive bass crowd, I'm doing my own thang.
I started out collecting different pickup combinations in guitars, in that collection:
1. Les Paul Deluxe
2. Les Paul Deluxe routed for humbuckers
3. Les Paul Deluxe with p90 (this one and the above are all Norlin, I love that era for Gibson)
4. '72 Telecaster Custom
5. Classic Series '70...
For me, the '75 is the only choice for the following reasons:
1. bullet truss rod adjustment
2. 3 bolt neck
3. (probably should be first) year my wife was born :)
I would buy the best bass you could get paid in full on day one. I personally shy away from buying instruments on credit. I also have a HARD pass on buying new instruments, all my gear was bought from Reverb, used.
I will weigh in only to say it has nothing to do with sound for me. I love Fender basses, and their Precision and Reissue Jazz look the best to my eyes Black on Maple Fretboard. I'll be getting together a Mustang shortly and it looks like my only real option for the pickups I want is to get a...
I'm very specifically searching either Reverb or the classifieds for the following:
Rickenbacker 4003W
Fender Mustang (the sort with the little pickup, not the PJ)
Musicman Stingray
and more recently, either a Dingwall or a Strandberg for that fanned fret fix
If we're doing numbers, I'd love one, if not, no hassle. All mellow
Here is the family
Here is the bass, a '97 Gibson Thunderbird. I installed a Hipshot bridge on it to replace the 3 point. Not better, not worse, just different
holy cats, 31k posts and counting. I saw a Nolly Getgood playthrough and took notice, recently. Definitely on my list of stuff to at least try out once, sounded amazing.
