    Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Just dropping in to say hi and happy new year to all the regulars. Been dealing with a change of state in my cancer which has cut into my music and internet time (and everything else time). I'm in a watch-and-wait phase with some new meds at the moment, which are their own adventure. Hoping...

Awesome. If you have questions, let us know. It's a real cut above in terms of robustness of design. Doesn't mean it works for everyone but Roger Linn thought of pretty much everything.

If you hated the Zoila this might not be the next place to go.

Sadly, no. I bought a pair of Phase Technology 6T tower speakers in 1999 and I still love them. But that company is long out of business. My honest advice is to take some music you go love and audition a bunch (and pay attention to the room, eg if it has carpet and yours doesn't).

If it’s off your computer, decent speakers are now quite affordable. I think music enjoyment is as important as gear acquisition. Thanks to buying used records, I have 50 year old records that I’ve owned for like 35 years. Also inherited a 1928 Orthophonic Victrola some years back. Shellac...

I'm fine with voluntarily supporting artists for now. Sounds good to me. I still spend way less on music than I did before streaming so why not spread the love around? But I agree the system is broken. Also the Bandcamp app is by design (Apple's) inferior on iOS devices, which is annoying...

With touch guitar it’s pretty close to classical playing position. Maybe an even steeper angle but part of the deal is letting the instrument move with you as you move around it. On bass I wear it under my rib cage and just a little up from 90 degrees.

Actually I have an Allsteel I like for desk work; I like a little elevation for playing.

My G&L L2K is 8.6#. I really like the feel of the Stingray Specials. They play so well. Also like Orange so congrats @lordradish

No worries. Sucks that it’s getting worse for you. Though most of the people I know with type II never “unbecome” diabetic, I can only imagine some of the moralistic BS you have probably heard that led to your standard post.

Type I or II? My wife is type I, had it since she was a baby.

Show us your Martin Keith Basses

Got a lot of questions about my touch instrument at our album launch in August. Was very cool. I'm away for a few months and got invited to play in a "bad jazz combo" (which is fine for me--I need to relearn walking basslines in 5ths tuning). I emailed Martin about doing the Carol Kaye...
