Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Well. On a more upbeat note, the new F Bass is still getting me excited about playing and practicing. I’ve probably played more this week than I did all summer.

I got a few shipping supplies so I can start unloading pedals accumulated in my dirt quest. I’ve still got my eyes on the new Erica Nightverb and the Zen Delay, but they can’t come in until a few things go out.

…one pedal sold today.
Time for a second.

I went to ship the sold one and got there just as the post office was about to close. I was bummed until I saw Tommy Wiseau of The Room. His car was parked out front and covered in promo stickers so I had to go inside and take a look to see if he was inside. Sure enough, there he was mailing stuff out of a garbage bag at a self service window.

Type II, was diagnosed in my mid-20s.


The standard thing I say when posting about diabetes, sorry if it seems like a lecture:

Type I is an autoimmune disorder; the immune system attacks insulin-producing beta cells. Not at all correlated with obesity. But it's also not always a childhood thing, in fact more than 50% of new cases are in adults. AFAIK it does always require an external source of insulin as well as close monitoring of blood sugar.

Type II is a syndrome rather than any specific disease. There are at least 5 different things that can go wrong, and often there's a progression of multiple things. It's diagnosed in both kids and adults. Obesity is a risk factor, but is neither the cause nor a requirement (my grandma was diagnosed with Type II late in life and was always skinny as a rail). From what I've read recently, it can't even usually be controlled by diet and exercise alone in the long term. Sometimes insulin is required along with other drugs.


Anyway, when I was first diagnosed, a daily pill and some exercise were enough to keep it controlled. Then something else "broke" and it's been a struggle ever since. I've been on five different classes of diabetes meds. Right now I'm on two of them plus slow-acting and mealtime insulins, and my A1C is finally starting to crawl back down toward 6.0.

Finally got that tone I was hearing in my head but couldn't quite get out of the Stambaugh. Plus the extra pickup gives some nice thumpy stuff for jazz(not quite an acoustic but definitely has some sort of woody punch that fits nice in the classic stuff).

I can't put the damn thing down. Haven't put it through the big board yet.

Yeah, it's orange. First non-coffee table color I've had, with the exception of the Peavey Patriot I had in 84, which was black.

That looks very nice indeed

So my recent happenings… loaned my synth to my guitarist for the 90’s metal covers we are doing… his wife is going to be back up singer / synth player (simple stuff like the back up synth parts in static x etc so will not step on my bass playing hah!)
But cos we are now playing anywhere from drop c# down to drop A, I brought both the fretless corvette and the Ibanez k5… the corvette has so much bass and growl I had to turn it down a notch but mmm love it for slides in stuff like deftones - passenger!
Trying to play fast stuff on the fretless I realised I’m going to have to practice a lot though! The difference between “just fretting it” with my small hands on the k5 turns into “horrible notes” on the fretless when playing around the first 5 or so notes down low… gah!

And for home stuff I almost have my second board complete… it’s basically tuner, pitch shifter, bit commander clone, muff, rat, mastotron clone, tc dreamscapes, Ibanez sb7 and bass mini wah… hoping I can make more noises with it than my usual whale noises which is what my synth board tends to end up like haha

Had a stingray 5 about 25 years ago it was a boat anchor, how much does this one weigh?
