Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Left hand still F@$( up.
Been playing a sort Rocco Prestia Simmandl hybrid the past few weeks.
Impossible to do the 1 to 4 feet stretch without sharp pain.
Old injury combined with a new one.
It gets better as you get older right??
More right hand exercises and permutations taken from drum books.

Guitar player is gone till October but we have enough material for the next album.

Should make more time for sampler work and explore more like I used to.

Boooo
My MRI results came back. Definitely a (very common) disc bulge/herniation in the low back. Doc hit me with a plan for manging the big flare ups, as well as daily management. I got a PT referral, so I'm hoping to get some benefit out of that. In the meantime, I guess I'm just going to play the new F Bass as much as I can, being mindful that too much play time can aggravate my condition.

That band had some really fantastic grooves.

Back in 1998 when Debris was on our Mid-Atlantic States tour (aka "The Road To Hell", that band's swan song) Soul Coughing's Ruby Vroom was playing almost non-stop in the van. Fantastically engaging and infectious. Ironically (?) we were all Bostonians familiar with Sebastian Steinberg's work only as a jazz player (!)

In some ways I see Soul Coughing to the 1990s as Gang Of Four were to the 1970s.

I had some friends (from Not Chicago, but close to Chicago) who were obsessed with them and kept quoting their longs long before they got around to playing the album for me. One of them named her djembe Super Bon Bon.

I effed my lower back up loading my bicycle into the car yesterday, and now I have the mobility of a sea cucumber.
Ambient/post-rock textural old man’s club. (Or “ organ recital”?)

I got to Cambridge, MA and it’s lovely here and my work setup for the year is amazing.

but I seem to have some nasty lung infection and two weeks ago coughed so hard I fell over, and thereby retriggering my concussion. %%%%ing he][. Not loving the US healthcare system but at least they have given me drugs, so I’m hoping the infection clears up.

Geez. I'd say "everybody just get well and stay healthy" but it's not like you didn't want to do that already...

My only real complaint lately is dental. Being diabetic, my gums are basically in a permanent state of inflammation. 6 months ago I got a crown and a deep cleaning on the right side while they had me anesthetized, and stupid insurance refused to pay for the cleaning saying it wasn't necessary. So for the left side, which wasn't as bad, they skipped the anesthetic and dialed back the pressure on the water jet thing from "kill" to "stun" so they could bill it as a regular checkup to save me $900. (I still had to pay for the previous one though.)

Yeah, we seem to be all busted up .
I can get around but I’m constantly shifting positions like an Upright player to avoid long stretches.

Sucks, but it is what it is.
The old injury took over a year to get better so I might as well suck it up stop whining and put in some work.
I have a few songs that I need to figure out compromises or simply endure pain for those passages.
Even a root octave in the first 3 frets sucks, my hand is sort of locked and can’t stretch at certain angles.

Anyways, I work more hours these days so time is pretty tight for musical explorations on my more « out of the box stuff »

Addendum
My insurance claim for losing about 6000 to 7000 worth of gear still isn’t resolved after over 5 days
Radio silence and no one returns my calls.
To say that I’m pissed is a freakin euphemism.

Been having to borrow cabs since the start of August since mine where health hazards do to mold.
I can even get quotes from other insurance companies since the claim isn’t resolved yet
Complet bureaucratic cluster F@&&(&
