So every once in a while youtube turns up one of these annoying good young dudes who just crush the bass harder than I ever could. Cool ambient bass ideas here, though.
Charles is a gifted and hard working player. His recent Rick Beato interview was good. His Escape the Internet tour with Ola and Bernth should be impressive. I’m not sure I’m willing to go to Oslo or Helsinki in the winter to see it, but…
Need opinions for my home mess around board - is delay or reverb better for ambient stuff…
I have my afterneath but sold off all other reverb and delays I had over the years ( yeah bad me!)
I remember boss rv3 and the digitech dl8 having lots of cool modes but now looking at the joyo Aquarius or whatever it’s called for the delay or reverb versions something cheap just to mess on.
Anyone used either??
(For what it’s worth my past ambient attempts have been drones with small riffs of lots of effects over it )

If you could only have one, I would say it's probably a cointoss.*
But I would rather have two (or three, or eight...) delays than one delay and one reverb.
*Reverb often runs the risk of turning bass into mud. Whereas, (with care) delay can be tweaked to almost simulate environmental space-like ambience without sounding too conspicuously like discrete repeats... so I guess my coin flip would lean more towards delay.
But again, just one pedal isn't going to get ambient enough to suggest "ambient stuff"

Get a used DD7 and a used RV5
Both are pretty cheap used.
I’ve used a DD7 for many years, easily one of my favourite delays ever along with the carbon copy

at first i read that as “bypass creativity”… which i do daily.
After about 25 years of not having an amp at home to practice (due to various reasons such as gig rig too big for apartment, lack of funds etc….)
I finally got an Ampeg 110 Rocket bass amp.
Excellent value for the $, I can put the long run of practicing on headphones on hold for a while( read It’s claustrophobic and lacks the air movement of playing dynamics on the instrument)
Best investment by far in a long time
Buy amp, practice more……win win I guess.
Still in process of suing the @$$holes that ruined about 10 000 of gear.
Next step is filing for a court date
Up here for this kind of issue it’s about a 18 month / 2 year wait

I’ve not tried the MicroFreak yet with the amp but I’m definitely optimistic about it.

i’ve been thinking about euro distortion, so this was fun to see/hear. not sure i want to built it myself. got me searching for stereo euro distortion units…
Picked up a Zen Delay yesterday. I’ve only had a few minutes of play time with it but it’s quite interesting. There are some quirks and noises that keep it from being a digital VST pristine machine, and a few particular annoyances are present… but DANG if the sweet spots don’t sound lovely. It really is fun to space out with, warts and all. It doesn’t offer any midi or other automation control so everything is turned by hand aside from a temp sync. I think a looper ahead of it and a reverb after would be a formula for a missing afternoon/evening. It seems to handle the MicroFreak, Nordy Cat, and F Bass just fine.
