SX P bass -> Fender P bass (almost)

Well, first off, if you can get the parts, and can do the mods, for less than a Road worn, you should do it. If you can't, get a beat up MIM, or save for a Road worn. That's what I'd do, anyways.

where should bassist stand (on stage)

I play in a three piece, So I have a little more room than most. Also, I don't stand still. So, when we set up, I usually map it out into three sections front to back. Singer/Guitarist up front on the mic, Me in the middle, so I can come to the front for solos, or the occasional backup, and then...

    Need a new bass

It really depends on what YOU want in a bass. Precision bass: What you think of when you think of BASS. They provide lots of low end, and will fill empty space really well in a band situation. If you'd rather be felt, this is the one for you. Dear and the Headlights - Sweet talk

    Is it just me...

No, I don't personally. I catch my self trying to get that P-bass through SVT tone on everything I play. That may be your problem. You almost have to make your self sound different, through different rigs. It doesn't matter what you play, or play through if you, lets say, play with flats...

A Funny Story About A Bass

There isn't anything wrong with someone who only likes Fender. There is something wrong with whoever can't understand why people only like Fender. They make good instruments. I have never had ONE instance where an Ibanez fit the music better than my Precision bass did. Have you? Yes, obviously...

What do you use your fretless for?

There isn't really a reason NOT to use a Fretless. If you can play one, you can play one. It's almost like saying "What do you use your fretted bass for?" I love fretless basses. Its like taking the worst part of a bass, and taking it off. God, I hate uneven frets! They can ruin a whole bass...

any squier people help me out.

The amp is going to be the majority of the tone. I'd personally get the PW, get it set up, string it with new strings (I like D'addario rounds, but whatever floats your boat.) That's all that the bass REALLY needs. Everything else isn't going to make a damn bit of a difference, especially...

    Pawn shop Jazz!

Wow, that sucks. I got excited about a custom shop for $450! I'm more surprised that you don't even care that its fake.

    New "Parts" Bass

I love parts basses. My main bass is a parts bass. It seems like you can make a better bass, for cheaper than you could buy one of the same quality.

What does Fender need to do to improve their company?

I don't believe Fender needs to do anything to step up. I believe that Fender could make the best overall instrument out there, if they'd lower the price. If they brought their prices down to where they were a couple years ago, it would put the Value rating over the top. Quality is good...

A Funny Story About A Bass

I guess that's true for you. I mean, I didn't start out on a GSR200, I started out on an old Peavey Foundation. Great bass. Also, I have not been so lucky to get a deal like that. You lucky... :D I pretty much only use P/J basses now, but I long for a bass with soapbars, and a thin maple neck.

A Funny Story About A Bass

That was a great read. Woah. You are very much right, wanting is usually not right for you. I hated my first bass. It was a Peavey Foundation in a cream white. Now that I can't find it, I miss it so. It seems to be your first bass is what you want all your other basses to be like.

Why so much negativity towards Fender?

This man is completely right. If you can't take care of a Fender, you shouldn't own one. Well, if you can't take care of a fender, what bass can you take care of? In my experience, Fenders are the easiest to do. I have had to set up my fender once. Everything else is more than solid. I wish I...

    Pete Wentz Squier...

I like the bass, I like the sticker. I loved the tone, and I loved the feel. It felt so much better than the Standard series they had, and this one was actually a player! The graphic doesn't bother me one bit, and I might actually purchase one for my blues/rock band. The biggest problem...

Maple fretboard on new MIM P Bass

Sort of a glossy finish. Its not too heavy, but its there. Its nothing compared to an SX.
