    NBD: Ibanez SR406NT

Aloha folks, Lanaka here. It's a little late as I got it last week, and am hesitant to post as the 6-ers I see here are high zoot basses compared to my lowly Ibby. But, for 399$ secondhand, I'm happy with it. It's a 1998 Ibanez SR-406-NT. As I officially am still learning how to play a guitar...

UPS/FedEx reduce heavy package fee threshold from 70 lbs to 50 lbs

Yup, I've always have shipped USPS, both send and receive. Altho sometimes they can be rough with the packages, BUT there's ways of getting compensation for that IF you're willing to put in the time/effort to make the claims (I am, as it often means a refund of fees and/or damage compensation)...

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Aloha TB; An update on my two "shorties," the Univox 'Lectra and the Samick SOB. Due to the difficulties determining the proper fitment of the pickups for the Univox, I'm putting it on the back burner for now. Not to mention I've got WAY too many project guitars on the queue list... The...

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Oh yeah it is a screaming deal! The body and the finish is in remarkably good shape for an instrument that is 50 years old! About the only casualty to time I can see is the electronics (naturally). Missing neck pup and the bridge is missing it's cover and is held in place only by it's own...

    The Samick Club

Gratz Ayce, glad to hear ye had reasonable success at getting that neck to sorta decent state! Thanks for sharing your techniques on how ye did it. Sounds like something I could try if I next run across a warped neck. :) -Lan

    The Samick Club

It's official. I'm now a proud owner of the SOB-PJ-WH bass! It's been named the "S.O.B." due to all the trouble it has given me to find almost no information about it! Initial assessment: the guitar has a remarkably straight neck (as expected from something that's hung when not used by the...

    The Samick Club

Unfortunately I have seen those before too. Had to pass on a few in the past. I've gotten 'religious' about keeping my guitars in hard cases too altho due to the increasing numbers of them, I now days store them standing straight up (still in the cases, of course). Found that they do better job...

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Yup, the body and finish is solid, even the headstock scroll is still intact with no cracks (altho it does have a few dings as expected of an instrument that's pushing past 60 years old). Only thing needed are new pickups and a pot knob. -Lan

    The Samick Club

Aloha Ayce, Thank you Ayce, nice to have a bit of verification to my gut feeling guesses. Yeah, saw that page earlier. Its one of those pages where i cussed "S.O.B.!" when I saw that the entry is just a single line of plain text ("SOB") with no linking to any more details. Nice to know that...

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

LOL, sorry Fat Freddy, I've already started learning to play the 'uke! :bassist: Got a few of those including a solid body electric ukulele. Fun playing that one thru a bunch of distortions and other pedals! Planning a few mods to this baby too (pups, pots, bridge, tuners and nut)!

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Aloha, I would like to join the short scale club. I have a 60-70s vintage Univox 'Lectra violin bass and soon will have a 80-90s vintage Samick short scale PJ (SOB-PJ-WH). The 'Lectra is a $50 fixer-upper bought from a local guitar shop. The "SOB" is a well-maintained modified bass from a local...

    The Samick Club

Aloha TB. Looks like I'm going to be elegible to be a member of the Samick Club too. Next week am going to buy a Samick short scale pj bass (with id as SOB-PJ-WH) for $120. I'm pretty sure the WH means WHite and PJ refers to the Precision Jazz pups. Still cant figure out what the SOB means...

    Need Univox Violin Bass Pickups

Lol, I just tried it. A quickie setup by lowering the OE backing plates all the way down then stuck the Crunch Lab I had lying around in there using a rolled piece of duct tape. Twist tied the wire ends together. Then jacked in the bass. "Doubt you'd like the sound," is a serious...
