i just put some vintage pickups in my american jazz bass with flats and when i do the foam trick and go direct with my tone rolled all the way down, thats how i get that tone. also, my head has a ridiculously low frequency eq so kicking up the lows and the higher mids helps it a lot

find another band man. if they don't want to work to make the band better as a whole, as it seems you do, they wont go very far. a band has to be a team
