Double Bass Aquila Deep Red Guts - Anyone tried them yet?

I tried them briefly on a friend's bass. Good feeling for pizzicato. Didn't like with the bow at all, but I'm not used to bow on gut strings.

    Double Bass Preferred Strings

On my MK Studio EUB I tried many strings, Spirocore 3/4 Lights, Evah Pirazzi, Obligato, Galli. At the end i settled down with D'Addario Helicore Orchestra Light, which seem to tame down the piezo harshness. And they're easy to bow. IMHO it's matter of trial and error.

    Double Bass Spirocores... dammit

My comment was related to the video in which none of the players use Spiro Mittels. I'm on the same party, "The bass the chooses the strings, Mr Potter", by some wizardry. I consider myself lucky because Spiro Mittels work great on my bass.

    Double Bass Spirocores... dammit

The number of bass legends playing Spirocore Mittels, like Ray Brown, Dave Holland, Marc Johnson, Eddie Gomez, and many others I'm forgetting, speaks volumes about their quality. Endorsements are another story.

    Double Bass Unwinding Spirocore...Safe?

Thomastik uses the worst silk of them all; it frays just looking at it. It's the same for EB strings.

    Double Bass Unwinding Spirocore...Safe?

I'd go full banjo if I were in your shoes. They'll mellow a with time and patience but at least the OCD is sedated.

Double Bass Trouble installing my Realist Lifeline Pickup

My soundpost dropped while I was loosening the strings with the bass flat on its back on a bed. My luthier explained that even if a soundpost is perfectly fit, it's not wedged under extreme pressure. When you release all string tension, the top and back could act like a spring and flex outward...

Double Bass Trouble installing my Realist Lifeline Pickup

Hi, there was a thread related to a similar issue. Here it is. https://www.talkbass.com/threads/realist-lifeline-installation-question.1665677/ If you do this with another person helping you is easier. You have to loosen the E+A in such a way to remove then from the bridge, lose a couple of...

    Double Bass Upton Laminated Bass

I am based in Italy and two years ago I got a fully carved Romanian 3/4 double bass for 3.500€. 4k for a plywood it's way too much IMHO.

Double Bass Aguilar AG500 with DB112 for upright bass.

John Patitucci uses Aguilar stuff for double bass, but the backline provides it for him.

    Double Bass Spirocores... dammit

In my experience the 3885W feel harder to play than the S42 Medium, since they're almost the same in terms of tension, but thinner.

Double Bass Markbass nylon Ares Travolazzi

I tried them on a bass (not mine) during a visit to a luthier. Very easy under the fingers and soft. They were so easy that I thought "playing these strings is easier than talking". I liked them a lot; unfortunately you cannot bow them, so for me it's a no go. They are made in Italy by D'Orazio...

Double Bass G string recommendation for EUB

On my MK EUB I've had good results with Helicore Orchestal Light gauge. They didn't feel too dampened and on my bass had also some nice growl on the lower strings. The G string wasn't that whiny from the get-go (like Spiros, for example) and had the right amount of sustain and low end.
