Is this a refurb'd Skyline, 'cause from where I'm sitting I think I can see that decal on the headstock, and also, it looks like a Skyline bridge (matte saddles)... So IIRC you owned a LOG Bass didn't you? I'm presuming a neck swap, or...

And then there are the Squires and SXs that (allegedly) play like Sadowskys. Perhaps they could be described "I can't believe it's not buttah!" :p

You're right, the 4-94 and 44-94 are the same bass. In the Dan Lakin "era" of the company, it was called the 4-94, but since the Pirrucello brothers took over they changed the name to the 44-94 for the sake of uniformity with all the other bass models, bar the Decade, Hollowbody, and Darryl...

I don't think anyone needs the amount of power an M9 has (without wanting to ruin hearing in the process, haha) but IMO, if you were gonna make the move to an M6/9 I would go for the M9, as I would rather have the options there and not use them, than be stuck one day... I just managed to...

If it helps, I run my 55-02 through a Mesa M6 (powering a pair of Berg AE210s) and I love it, the voicing control is actually usable, though I generally run it all pretty flat. I can only imagine the M9 would be more impressive, do to the Graphic EQ amongst other things.

I believe the Skyline AJs have the same Bart preamp as the -01s which might be why there is no active/passive switch... Just thinking out loud :)
