    L-O-N-G Shot! "Bruce" Amps????

I owned a Bruce waaaaaay back. Bought it around 1982. It was a 212 model with the funk and tremolo effects. I believe the speakers were not aligned vertically, if I remember correctly. I played a lot of gigs with that amp. I think the preamp stopped working at one point, and as others have said...

What is the Appeal of a Short-Scale Bass?

Actually, short scales usually have a fatter bottom. True story.

What is the Appeal of a Short-Scale Bass?

Your original question supposes that there’s a “proper” or “standard” scale. There’s not. All scales are arbitrary. Different scales have a different sound and playability. That’s all there is to it.

    Singing over complicated basslines

I'm a singing bass player and sometimes it's not easy but what I have found that works for me is that I need to be able to either the bass part or the vocal in what I call autopilot mode. If I can play the bass line without thinking about it, then I can focus on the vocal (and sometimes...

New PJ Mustang at Summer NAMM

I think a Torino Red might be in my future but I will probably cut a tortoise pickguard for it. I think that'll look much better than the standard.

    Gigging Jerry Jones/Danelectro

Love my Jerry Jones copperburst longhorn with the wooden bridge. After gigging with it for years and watching the value go up, I think it's time to retire it from gigs and just use it for recording. Looking for something to replace it with. Jerry Jones Alternatives?

I've got a Jerry Jones copperburst longhorn with the wooden bridge. I love that bass and have gigged and recorded with it quite a bit but with the value going up on it, I think it's time to retire it for strictly studio use. I am on the lookout for an inexpensive short scale, gigging...

Best Mods Recommendations for Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Short Scale

That is a sweet-looking bass! I like the color and especially the pickguard choice.

    Garry Tallent new bass

thanks for the info! I was wondering, like a lot of us, what kind of bass it was. I could tell it was custom, and based on a longhorn. Looks like a single EMG pickup and an adjustable bridge. I do wonder how it sounds with those changes as I always assumed the lipstick pickup and wood bridge had...

    Ampeg stack just for looks?

Playing an Ampeg SVT simply because you think you are supposed to is silly. NOT playing an Ampeg SVT because they are so ubiquitous is silly. In other words, play the amp that suits your sound and your lifestyle. There are lots of choices.

    Danelectros and Straploks

Looks familiar OtisRocks. I have a copperburst Jerry Jones Longhorn too (see photo). Note, mine has the wood bridge. I installed Dunlop straplocks behind the neck with no problem (I think you can see it). I had Schaller straplocks on it originally and they were a pain to take on and off, so I...

What do you think of: Hamer USA Cruise Bass with 2tek Bridge?

I own one and it's a very good bass. The stock pickups are Seymour Duncan Vintage Jazz (according to Hamer). I suppose it is a little heavy but it's balanced well. I would not call the neck chunky at all. I love narrow, thin necks and this one is comfortable, if not super slender.

    famous bassists who use picks

I'm glad someone finally mentioned Graham Maby! He is one of my favorite bass players...phenomenal. Another one I haven't seen mentioned is Colin Moulding (XTC) he plays both but has used a pick extensively, see Mayor of Simpleton.

TC Electronic RH450, RS210, RS212 Review Thread (Part II)

Has anyone seen a US resource for the cabinet covers? I can't seem to find them anywhere.
