    Interviewing Bassists Stories Pt. 3

Got my copy yesterday! Now I have someone else to blame for not failing college classes-- can't quit reading. Speaking of addicting substances...

I've got a gig with MARK KNOPFLER!

I am incredibly jealous, MK is a genius on the guitar.

    Interviewing Bassists Stories Pt. 3

Holy cow Tom, those stats kind of make me glad I live in the middle of the desert, without all the crazies around. Of course, we get our own brand of crazy here, but at least our police aren't showing the military how to do their job! The whole time I was reading part 1 I kept thinking how...

    Interviewing Bassists Stories Pt. 3

Tom, I just wanted to let you know that you are one of the most amazing and interesting authors I have ever read. I love reading, and will read pretty much anything i can get my hands on. One of the things I love most is seeing each authors voice and how different they can be, but I have to say...

    Breaking the mold

Oh and BTW, I should probably confess (with guilt and shame) that I'm the guitar player at the moment

    Breaking the mold

Phew, it was starting to feel like writing a novel, so I just posted what I had. Malcolm, i have written a few story type songs, it's actually how i got started, but I'm finding it harder to fit it into this context, especially since I want to get the crowd involved in the music more. But...

    Breaking the mold

Thanks for all the awesome replies everybody, I've got a lot to think about now! Joe, I'm working on writing more, the creativity comes and goes though, but I have definitely improved a lot from where I started : ) Stumbo, I couldn't agree more, I love learning new stuff and you gave me some...

    Breaking the mold

That's a good point mjac, I hadn't thought of the signature sound aspect. However, I think a lot of our style comes from the playing/vocals rather than any particular characteristics of the songwriting. I'll keep that in mind though! I try and keep the entire process as democratic as possible...

    Breaking the mold

So I've been lurking on here for a while, love all the advice and experience on here and I figured I'd try to take advantage of it. :) Anyways, right now i'm playing in a power trio, standard guitar-bass-drums format. We play all originals, pretty straight-ahead 4/4 rock with some punk and...

    A Silk Purse from a Sow's Ear

That is a great looking bass, each piece is individually beautiful and all together it is a knockout!

The Tour from Hell pt2-cleaning up the mess.

Thanks man. I didn't read all the way through the thread yet so I'm glad you made it through. Job hunting sucks though, my buddy's got a degree in chemical engineering and has a job he says a trained monkey could do. They pay him pretty good for it though, so there's still hope :) Good luck man!

    Finding the best mix

So I just barely started gigging with my band and the only thing we have running through the PA right now is vocals. I don't have a lot of experience and I'm just looking for general advice. Does anyone have any tips on getting a good mix with just amps? I did a search but didn't get any great...

The Tour from Hell pt2-cleaning up the mess.

Hey man, I noticed your thread, and thought I'd throw in my two cents. I'm going to school also and trying to stay motivated, it's tough but if I can do it, I know you can. Good luck Brotha.
