    Preamps for accurate tone/recording?

I'm not familar with the V bass but I'm guessing here it is a modeling instrument, not something like a pod. A preamp is a great idea. I like the Pendulum Quartet but like you say, that's a lot of money. I think you might be wanting some plug-ins to use after you record a straight bass sound in...

    noob microphone placement question.

Well, wow, barking? I take it that's not a good thing. And no, 99.9% of folks don't mic the center of a cone.....more than once. Try it at 1 o'clock or 9 o'clock or....you get the idea. You might even set it at say 9 and angle it toward the outer edge of the cabinet. When people say on the grill...

    Bass Recording...

That's what he's telling you to do. You're experiencing latency so you need to make adjustments. There should be some instructions online you can read.

Simple bass DI for home recording

I have a Great River preamp that I use for a DI. I think it sounds great but ya, know, it's a lot more than a DI and costs a lot more. I've used a lot of countryman over the years with great results.

    2x12 vs 1x15 and 2x10

    I have a 118 and 210. I haven't hauled the 18 around in 15 years but I don't play a 5 either.

what you do when your band drinks to much

Oh, you were wanting a serious answer? Then let me ask a serious question. How many of you that have day jobs drink all day long (and are able to keep a day job)? If this is my job (and it was for 25 years) and a drunk is threatening my livelyhood then he goes. If he drinks enough he probably...

    Good Strings for Funk

It would be easier to answer what they "aren't" used in. When i started playing they were I guess state of the art? You seemed to either get flatwounds or Rotosounds. Notice I said "you" get flatwounds. I never did. I like to think of the bass guitar as a "bass guitar" not a "bass bass." I know...

    Ken Smith Slap Masters

I use the 30-90 set and have on my Yamaha since 1988 or '89. I like them better than others. That's why I use them. I used to own a couple of stores and had gotten them for some local guys. Back then ALL bass strings were expensive so didn't get changed as much as they probably should have. I...

Closeups of Dusty Hill's yellow bass?

Yes, it would be that one. I'll keep looking for closeups. Thanks for heading me in the right direction.

My band is going into the studio!

1- be rehearsed 2- be on time 3- don't make a mess 4- don't waste time telling war stories but don't act like your heads are on fire either 5- be nice, even to each other If you can come away with one good track as opposed to 3 so-so tracks do that. For your first time in settle for 1...

Witch bass is best for me?

I play an RBX 550 and have for about 20 years now. I would have moved up but the higher-ups are active. I think any Yamaha is good choice.

Another Sadowsky that hits the spot !

Oh, that's nice. And here I was thinking I wanted to build one in copper metallic.....oh, no. Another decision to make.
