2x12 vs 1x15 and 2x10

Ive spent some time running the forums and looking at what people say about different setups. I decided about a month ago that I would build a 1x15 and a 2x10 to get a good range on my sound seeing as im not really sure what sound I am looking for.. I do know I own a 5 string and want the lows to boom a bit and that I enjoy a pretty 'crisp' sound when I start hitting my D and G strings..

ok so here is my proposition .. instead of the two cabs I was looking at maybe I should just build a 2x12. if I get the right speakers to load into those cabs I should be able to get a pretty clean sound out of my mids and a nice boom (movement of air) out of my lows.

am I wrong at looking at this new idea.. or does it seem like a good idea and of course does anyone have any ideas for good 12's that have a great range of freq's.

:hiding:

ok first i know...'search' but i havent found what im looking for in addition to my origional question I am playing a 5 now so are 12's going to have the response i need down in the way low.. of course I know cap design and what drivers I use make as much difference just looking for a 'in general' kind of answer ..

thank you all the guru's for putting up with us wannabees...

I think that whatever you do, I'd pick a driver size and stick to it to keep phasing issues at bay. I like 15"s, I like 12"s. 12"s are a very good speaker that give you the best of both worlds IMHO. But if you want a full-range cab, you should search on Bill Fitzmaurice and go to his website because he knows how to get the best out of speakers.

Maybe you need to try out some cabs, and see what you like - go from there. I like very deep lows & very crisp highs too with a lot of upper-mid scoop. I use a 115 + horn that accomplishes that.

+1. I have tried all kinds of speaker configurations in cabs and always seem to come back to something with a 15 in it. Nothing like the lows a 15 can put out. I've pretty much have settled on the 15 + tweet setup, although I like the 3way Carvin LS1503, too. But my main rig right now is my Roland DB700 combo amp, ( 15 + tweet ). Seems to do it all for me.

Since most people here would suggest getting a 2x10 over a 1x15, I'm pretty sure a 2x12 would be even better than a 2x10.

Imo, 2x10 is a bit too much on the treble side, but the 1x15 lacks it. The 1x15 is more on the low end sound, but 12" speakers aren't far from that. 12" is probably the best you can get of both worlds.

Having 2 such speakers will also make sure you're both heard and felt.

Why not have it all...!

My LDS rig: 15" 10" and a 6" in one cab, 2 x 12" in the other

The Fender R.A.D. is my BU...
