Do you guys ever get GAS to buy a guitar?

    Of course ... I was a guitarist ('59 - '66) before was a bassist ('66 - '15); so I have natural affinity for guitars. In fact, I just bought 3 over the last 2 days. What can I say ... I'm nearly 71, so I do because I can!

WHICH PUP MANUFACTURER MOST CLOSELY DUPLICATES VELVET HAMMER PUPS

Thanks, Snaxter ... now I'll gather up Senior Panza and go looking for a troublesome windmill to best!

WHICH PUP MANUFACTURER MOST CLOSELY DUPLICATES VELVET HAMMER PUPS

Snaxter ... you hit the nail on the head ... APPROXIMATES is a more accurate word. If you don't mind, what did they finally go for? $175-200? The reason I asked about a "close to Velvet Hammer pickup" from a current supplier was mostly based on the extreme unlikelihood of finding a set for...

WHICH PUP MANUFACTURER MOST CLOSELY DUPLICATES VELVET HAMMER PUPS

I have need for a set of Red Rhodes VELVET HAMMER pups for a P Bass build I'm looking into. Now, my first choice would be to find a set, NOS or used ... PERFECT!!! Failing that, which if any of the currently available manufacturers makes a pup that most closely duplicates Red's beauties?

Are You A Natural Or A Neophyte?

Started playing guitar in '59 (a big Airline arch top). Played rhythm guitar in a band from '61 to '66 and then switched to bass and have been there ever since! I enjoyed playing guitar ... but LOVE playing bass. It came so naturally it was as though I had been born to play bass.

    Cleaning and reusing strings?

You're right ... I got confused ... salt for pastas ... clear water for strings.

    Cleaning and reusing strings?

Many years ago, while visiting Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, I got to talking with one of the guys there and he put me on to boiling. That was probably 30+ years ago and it's worked for me. Just ask you wife if it's OK to use her big chili pot BEFORE you fill it up with water, a dash of salt...

paying rent to rehearse at a band member's home

OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!! Absolutely NO! I created a "band room" in the basement of our new home when we built it. My bandmates only had to bring their guitars (and only because they wanted to), since I had everything set up and ready to go ... all the time.

    Is an 18 better than a 15?

I've used 15" JBL 140F's in a pair of "Joe's Sound & Salami" bins for decades and have no complaints. Nicely portable too ... except they're heavy as hell!

Why is the bass inherently more rhythmic?

I've played for 50 years, but feel a little intimidated posting my thoughts here since I've had ZERO formal musical training ... so here goes. Baja Clarkko and Ulf Buck hit on something that I feel as well. When I'm playing and I'm in the groove with my drummer, we mutually reinforce each...

Real difference between MIM and MIA

Well, I had a MIA original 1972 Jazz, Natural Ash / Maple w/Pearl Bloxs and a 1973 Precision Natural Ash / Maple, but I did 90% of my playing with my MIJ reissue '62 P Bass for 28 years ... by choice! I also owned a MIM Fiesta P Bass that I used for our "The Shadows" set. I've even played a...
