    Double Bass Double bass positions

    i always learned to play the notes, not positions. like thewhale said, its the notes that count. Positions are just markers, like the little black dots. try scales in all -possible- fingerings, it'll make it easier when you're playing something unusual.

    Double Bass whilst soloing.. (in the series of stupid questions i've been asking recently)

    I try to sort of parallel the actual song melody a bit. This doesn't mean playinbg the melody, more like playing a harmony mixed with it. The important thing is to keep within each bar. Try using simpler rhythms too.

    I always get that flute one. The reason they have DB's in an orchestra is to use up the bits from making violins.
