It took me two weeks to learn to play major and minor scales in all 12 keys on 1, 2, 3 and 4 strings. I play through them daily as the first part of my practice routine. It's a lot easier than it might sound, it's just a few patterns.

I typically use 3 I think but I have big hands so I don't think 4 would be a problem. We haven't really solidified anything just yet in that regard.
