This may sound uninspiring, but I have memorized everything I play, down to the last fill. Therefore, I am always consistent and predictable... and the other band members love me for it. This allows them to shine, even improvise, knowing I will always be solid in support.

I’m a firm believer if people are focused on me, then I’m overdoing it. Frankly, other than other bassists, who else really listens to what Jameson threw down? To the point, I don’t play for other bassists, I play what the piece requires.
