I live in Australia. An Alembic Spoiler or Epic would cost thousands second-hand, if you could even find one for sale. The bass is just a copy of the 'essence' of an Alembic. The construction is not even close to the real thing. Putting Alembic pickups and electronics would defeat the purpose...

Recently bought a copy of Series ! Alembic from China. Waiting to fit Warwick 2 piece bridge and Bartolini Pickups and electronics.

They are making fake Alembic's now too! Just got one the other day. Bridge replacement and full pups and electronic replacement await.

The comparison of these two basses is unfair. True the Chickenbackers are not in the same league for quality, but the genuine article costs 9 to 10 times more than the Chinese copy. Sound is the key factor here. I have heard duds from both camps

Hello It was stated when you are "silly" enough to buy a Chickenbacker "Oh well, you get what you pay for". It seems that some hard working bassists bought a Rick 4003, and did not get what they payed for :-) It is debatable who the real silly people are

Hello Hope you can make the best of this situation. Looks like QC at RIC is poor or RIC are just trying to squeeze every dollar out of their mistakes. I pity any Aussie bassist who may just spend nearly $3K AUD on that type of error in the future!

Hello From my experience, the cheap Chinese fakers sound more like rics than those detailed vintage Japanese clones. My 2 cents ;)
