My explorer surrounded by her friends.
I really want to get chrome or black chrome pickups, but I really like the sound of the stock TBird plus Gibson pickups.
Has anyone taken over moderating? I would dig a number.

That black warlock is sick. For some reason i really dig the oldschool reverse headstock with that body even though it doesn't really match the body style. Eventually I'll track down one of the old US made locks , probably my favorite bass style.

What strings fit a 1986 Gibson Explorer?
It's 32" scale.
It's 34" from nut to ball end.
It's 36.5" from ball end to E string post.
Tried D'Addario 170XLS - too short, E-string taper begins at the 2nd fret.
Tried Rotosound RS66LD - too long, E-string taper begins about 1 1/2" beyond the post.
What's the correct string set, ideally nickel roundwounds.

Hi.
Perhaps it's just me, but even as the Futura body style has only slight differences over the more traditional Explorer style, and by some sources was the original "Explorer", it has never sunken in with me.

Built this thing at least 30 years ago - have redone it about 4 times. Dimarzio "freebie" ash body (Thank you again, Larry). Originally built with fretless jazz neck, then maple P-bass, then an old Vox Phantom neck (great feel, but started delaminating) and now a Peavey something neck. Was originally active with single Dimarzio Model P. Now passive with the same Model P and added a Model J. Dual sound toggles for each pup. Since pic was taken I changed to just the 2 pup switches, a Master Volume and a Tonestyler. Schaller bridge, Grovers. I had reshaped the cutaway maybe 20 years ago. This is the one I get buried with and the best bass I have ever owned and I have had dozens. This thing does it all!
