I can't tell if the original poster is objecting to the fact that Fender offers guitars the purport to be reissues of classics or if he just objects to the naming/branding of such? Either way I don't think I can get on board with the critique.

I am much more likely to look down on a player who refuses to put in time learning more than one technique and disparages those they don't handle. Pick playing is my weakest technique but I enjoy the sound and have nothing but respect for those who are masters of it. Horses for courses.

I think the OP's strategy was just a bit off. There may be circumstances where a low opening offer makes strategic sense. But if you are trying to persuade the seller to change course and part out, I would think you need to put out a number that gets him thinking that is a tempting option...
