Dumb CL Ad's pt 5, Dumbester and Dumberest

I feel like I've posted this question before, but I can't find it, at least not in this thread.

There are a ton of bands looking for every position and a ton of players on that instrument looking for those bands' genre on my local Craigslist. I can't imagine other places are any difference. Is it an indictment on the players, the bands, or both that they aren't getting together? I feel like I'm going to have to hang out at Guitar Center daily in a scene like Wayne's World to run into any bands worth auditioning for. (Or is the bulletin board at the local shops really the best place to look?)

The best way is to attend local jam nights...and network with real musicians that are out there playing and not huddled in their basements typing craigslist ads. Not to say that there aren't a few good leads on CL but you really have to develop the skill of weeding through them before responding and then still be braced for disappointment. The store bulletin board is okay but usually under-utilized.

Networking still the best way I know to find a band you might fit with. Every other method is a crapshoot, some good, some not, and you waste a lot of time.
But I have found bands on CL and on bandmix.com.
The latter might be a better quality lead machine because it costs a little money to subscribe and be able to be contacted on the site.
Having said that, it doesn't guarantee you'll jell with the band members. That is TRULY a crapshoot.

CL is a crap shoot, but sometimes it works out just fine. I replied to an ad looking for a bass player for rockabilly, and it seems like it's going to be a good fit. That doesn't mean I can't be amused by some of the odder and sillier things people put on CL.

Most of the bands I have played in were formed thru CL. I met many great musicians who remain friends today thanks to CL .

I was more curious how with so many available at the positions and preferring the same genre as the plethora of bands looking, why are the positions not matching themselves up? Everyone wants a better player than that and they want a better band than that? I suppose it could all come down to scheduling, I'm just surprised at how many seemingly matching ads there are on both sides at any given time.

Probably the players looking are the ones who just got fired, that the bands looking are trying to replace.

Comfort has killed the rockstar not the internet, all the greatest bands came up with nothing but their instrument and their balls to take on the world, having crap jobs to survive with the goal to find a couple of others who'll sell their lives to make music, live in a van and tour the world. Today's musicians are afraid to put they're stuff on the block, beg/borrow/steal some money and tour they're record and play to whomever will listen. I've heard every excuse in the book from musicians who want someone to hand them the cup without setting foot on the field, hovering around home playing a few shows a month and expecting to be treated like rockstars.
NO, there is no money in touring for a new band, HELLO its a new product that hasn't been marketed, that is the point of touring a specific region to MARKET the record and it takes time to reach enough people where the tours will break even and there is no way around it so its either someone else's money that has to be put down to pay the cost or the band's but someone has to pay to get that product to market.
As long as musicians are not willing to stop getting into car payments and mortgages and relationships that keep them pickin' cotton and a slave to the company store there is no hope, those funds that's raised in temp jobs or part time work or gigs has to go into a band fund to pay for touring, pay for the costs to get that band in front of people who want to hear what they're doing and if its expected that someone else who has money is to pay and the band is not already well on the road to profitability GOOD LUCK seeing money people separated from their money.
It's easier to lay back and pretend and build an illusion than it is to make that dream a reality and as long as musicians are comfortable there will be no one to step into the gladiatorial area to win their freedom.

I'm a singer/songwriter working a Led Zepplin 1 type thing with modern production and in need of a rock bassist, if this makes sense to you reply...
