    Why the hate towards guitarists?

IMO good dudes/gals that play guitar are not guitards, self centered guitar players that think and/or act like idiots may be referred to as guitards.

    Passive basses with MM pickups

Thx ScottBass, good advise about music store recon; I'm not worried about resale since it's a bottom end artist, I got it used for $140 and already modified it's pick guard, plan on making this girl mine.

    Passive basses with MM pickups

Don't mean to hijack, but this thread is spot on regarding a question I have. I've got an old MTD artist (single MM) and love it's aggressive tone but I'd like to address its lack of low end warmth & sustain. I've aquired a Nordstrom 4.2 MM pick-up (haven't installed it yet) & was undecided...

    Basses with the best action

My Schecter Stiletto's factory set up is low and the finger board profile is flat with jumbo frets, to me it plays like a guitar. Suggest you play one. I prefer higher action, lower frets, radius finger board, but the stiletto has great tone IMO and plays well.

vibrato on fretted bass... how does this work?

I find shaking the instrument works very well for me, my impression is that it creates a flex in the neck (string tension change) and induces additional vibration in the string. Plus it's physicaly expressive, my style. Shaking/rolling finger and rapid shallow bends works also, but to me, not...

    Schaller strap lock problem

I had a similar problem with the screws coming loose, removed the screw, put some locktite on the treads, re-installed, prob solved. If locktite not available, a drop of glue may work. If yer gonna try a lube, I'd suggest a dry type.

    Wives/Girlfriends at practice

no problem, we (the band members) know who's cool and who's not, cool friends welcome and don't hurt the practice, haven't had a problem yet, but if we did I'd address it directly with the guest and their S/O.

MTD Artist Pup mod advice pls

I recently purchased an older model single pick-up Kingston Artist & love the neck, string spacing, weight, etc. It's bright tone is quite different from my Squire P/J & Schecter Elite, & that's a plus. However I'd like to be able to get a more classic tone out of it as well (without...

question for those who have the tascam bass trainer

I've got the cd version of the trainer, use it with headphones at work during lunch, love it. Bought a 1/8 to 1/8 cable at Radio Shack and plug my Ipod into the input jack on the trainer. You can't use the slow and loop features when using the Ipod, gotta burn a practice disk . It an expensive...
