Ken Smith Strings For Non-Ken Smith Bass

+1 on the slick rounds. They just weren't that fantastic on a jazz bass I had them on. I little too grabby. They feel so much like steel its hard to believe they are marketed as nickel.

Gallien-Krueger Official Club Thread: part II

Hey, I just got back from checking out that new combo. Its sooo light! I think this stuff is going to make a lot of people happy provided it is reliable. I played the 15" 200W combo w/ a stingray and it is super clear, kind of spongy, fat, and has a nice all around big bass sound. I put...

    Flatwounds on stingray

I got Sadowsky flats as well on my 3 band ray. They are very smooth steel flats. 100-80-60-40. Its sick. All the ray sounds without the finger noise. I wonder about putting TI flats or Pyramids on. I suspect they will play better, but I don't want to lose that clear punchy tone I get.

Anyone see Dwayne Dolphin's black and gold stingray? He was killing that thing at the club cafe when I seen him there.

    Flatwound Strings: Sadowsky vs. Dr

Ok, sounds sacrilegious rite? Ray+Flatwounds=not a stingray? Totally crazy. They add a fender-like roundness to the stingray sound. They are surprisingly bright & clear for flats. ( I think because of the steel vs nickle ) Bonus #1 Absolutely no signature "growl" of the Stingray has...

Fender '08 Hot Rod Jazz Club

I traded it. It just wasn't that fantastic IMO. When i gigged the bass or recorded with the S-1 the push of the low end became muddy and similar to a Warwick corvette when engaged. It just never satisfied no matter how I dialed it in. I found myself using the neck pickup alone all...

    Flatwound Strings: Sadowsky vs. Dr

Cool, thanks for the input. Imfreeman9, I assume you were talking about the .105 gauge for both sets. I would have went DR., but they only have one gauge. So I'm trying the Sadowsky flats 40-100, which might feel a little more comfortable to be. I'll post when I string up the ray.

    Beat Nasty Basses

Lets see the REAL road worn, belt rash ridden, homemade slap-scoop havin', smell of hockey stankin', pick burned, neglected cigarette headstock cymbal smashin', and the "Oops, I tried to do that spinny strap thing and failed" basses. :bassist: Who plays em? ( This thread was...

    Coated vs Uncoated Strings

I assume you'd buy them if your strings corrode or rust easily. They don't sound as bright as reg nickle strings. But, they stay alive longer. FYI-It also seems like more of a challenge to fret. I really had to be right on the fret for no buzzing or dead sounds. I played them with med...

Fender '08 Hot Rod Jazz Club

I launched mine off. I couldn't get that Will Lee sound I was looking for. Even with a compressor. I know its alot of him and high action. But I can't get into a Jazz anymore unless its active. I'm much happier with a Stingray. Count me out fellas. :(
