2008 Fender American Standard P Bass or Mod Shop?

I would go with the 2008, my 2008 American Standard P is my main player, and both my favourite neck and my most balanced bass. I don’t have experience with the Geezer pickups, but they are well liked.

    LaBella Flats for Rock/Pop

I use the same bass with flats in two very different rock bands currently. My bandmates often compliment the sound I’m getting. I think a little bit of preamp gain/overdrive helps them get a bit of an edge in place of that roundwound rock grind. Also, I’m using D’Addario Chromes which are...

    Ibanez ATK300 IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Congrats on the ATK. I'd say they handle drop-tuning well, I have mine set up for BEAD tuning and it's great. My favourite tone settings are the switch flipped toward the neck or in the middle, which are both more uniquely "ATK" tones, with the middle setting being brighter. The switch flipped...

    NBD - 1995 Ibanez ATK300

Congrats on the bass! I have a 2007 ATK (and an 805, but it's very different). Mine is strung BEAD and I think it works really well on that bass. My favourite thing about it is probably the sound with the pickup switch flipped toward the neck, or in the middle. These sounds are more unique to...

Playing 5 string songs with 4 string.

Glad to see this mentioned - I do this often enough on my 4-strings and it absolutely adds some weight to the note. It is less useful for parts that pedal off the B, or involve playing a lot of notes in rhythm on the B. But, for punctuating the end of a line or a song I absolutely love doing this.

New band asking for C tuning : best strategy ?

I once played in a band that used C tuning, and I used both a 5 string tuned half a step up as well as a 4-string set up with BEAD strings, also tuned half a step up. Both approaches worked well for me

    ibanez basses; premium and prestige?

I have 2 Ibanez Premiums, an ATK805 and an SR1105. Both are very well built, and they feel and sound great. These particular models are very different from each other, but they are of the same high quality.

Still needing help with preamp questions.

I use an EBS Microbass 3 for those flexible purposes. I run mine into the effects return of an Ampeg 2x10 combo for playing live, or use the preamp on its own for recording or IEM rehearsals. I sometimes get to run the EBS into a Markbass rig at the rehearsal space for one of my bands. In my...

All I want is tuner, compressor, and a little gain in one box. Do I need an HX Stomp?

I use the Microbass 3 for the purposes OP needs it for, and it's been great

Groove: share a tune that would be a definition of groove for you.

Came here to post this, happy to see it on the first page!

    Poll: 4s, 5s or 6s (or more?)

I alternate, with: Two standard 4s One BEAD 4 Two 5s

    Pedals with dual XLR outs

I really enjoy my EBS Microbass 3. It doesn’t have a cab sim, but I find using the “Tone” control on the drive channel can get you wherever you want to go with it.

Pre-show warm ups and/or rituals - what do you do?

I find a calm spot before the changeover and do some stretching. I always like that moment actually, because I'm usually with my bandmates doing the same thing/their version of a warmup routine. I always get the feeling of "everyone's here doing what they need to do to feel good about this gig"...

    String...joy?

All I can do is take your word for it, but I’m still not convinced that the customer service person was rude to you initially. You didn’t need to respond with any snark as far as I’m concerned

    String...joy?

I agree with this. From the OP, I did not get any weird vibe or attitude from my understanding of Stringjoy's initial reply to the question. They suggested that you start with a setup (not unreasonable) and you replied rudely. If you had replied kindly, even reiterating the same things you...
