How often are you using your short scale?

Doubled on a Mustang bass in the 80's. I want to get back into bass after spending the last couple decades mainly on drums with some guitar and mandolin. I have two long scales: a Cort Artisan and a Peavey T40, but for now I'm using my only short scale, a Rondo SX alder body, maple neck PJ every...

    Peavey T-40 Club Part 2

Just picked up a 1980 T40 today. The body has very little finish left, none on the back. After I get the stickers off I'll need to remove any remaining finish and redo. Also need a phase switch and some rewiring. The neck has the finish worn off on the outer fretboard and side, not sure what to...

Olympia OB-5 versus OB-3 acoustic bass

Nope, laminated top, it appears that the OB-5 is the same as the OB-3 other than the cosmetic differences.

Olympia OB-5 versus OB-3 acoustic bass

Correction, the outer veneer on the back a sides is maple. It is a copy of the fanciest Thunderchief, the CB28C, which had maple sides and back and came with the same sunburst. I found a third OB-5 online with the claim that it was made in 2003. Also, unlike the OB-3's that I've seen, the OB-5...

Olympia OB-5 versus OB-3 acoustic bass

Does anyone know the difference between the rare OB-5 and the common OB-3? I have a few Tacoma guitars and know about as much about their history and products as anyone. Today I received an Olympia OB-5 CE6/SB. I've only found two other OB-5's on the web and they are also sunbursts. I'm very...

Is your gear worth more than your car?

Easily. I also ride a Klein bicycle and back in the 80's they ran an ad about it making sense to their customers to carry a $3000 bicycle in a $500 pickup truck. I'm not into cars. My truck does everything I want it to. I am into music.

What age is a good age to act your age in this age

William James answered that question in the nineteenth century: thirty. Despite this dating back two previous centuries, humans haven't changed enough to alter the answer.

Who's trying to lose weight this year??

Only 25 pounds down in six months. Two bike accidents, several illnesses and a 15 day vacation have slowed me down. I'll need to do better in the second half of the year.

    Ocean bass club

Thanks for rescuing this thread from oblivion. Any other Ocean bass owners out there? The price of used Oceans has been going up at Guitar Center so I know word of mouth is going strong outside of this forum.

Does a no-complete clause hold up?

Covered pretty thoroughly but the most obvious case hasn't been mentioned: salesmen. Most non-compete clauses are meant to keep you from taking a bunch of customers to your next job. I'm a CPA and the comment about accountants being particularly subject to non-compete clauses is not true -...

Who's trying to lose weight this year??

I'm on myfitnesspal.com. Need to rejoin the gym but have run deficit calories every day since I started Jan 1 and am down 11 pounds. add> It does seem that the conventional wisdom as implemented by myfitnesspal.com is true. Their calorie goal, 1980 for me, is dropping 2 pounds a week. I've had...

    Aspergers club commence.

My aspie kids have higher IQs, but I have higher function. My professional work became my obsession and I relentlessly pursued each problem from every possible angle. There seems to be subtle difference in symptoms that can create a huge difference in outcomes. It's also true that a remarkable...

Crush a stereotype of your home state

The stereotypes of Seattle are true in my experience, but most see the entire state of Washington through the lens of Seattle. The NW has lots of crazies on both end of the political spectrum. In the space of a few weeks in 2008 I heard my neighbor wail about the Bush FEMA camps to imprison...

Songs your audience SINGS along with you.

A bit of a tangent - My favorite song is "The Dutchman". I was at a Michael Smith concert where no one was singing along until he played "The Dutchman". As soon as the song began every person in the crowd seemed to be singing along. I was in a band with David Cloud, who was part of the Allman...
