is there any joy in being a jobbing bass player?

Never a full time gigging musician, I took a 30 year hiatus from playing music. I started back playing tuba (was a low brass player in HS and college) in 2004, playing in community bands and five piece ensembles. I retired for the second time in 2020, just as COVID was hitting here in the US (23...

Portable bass amp recommendation for small outdoor gigs (with drums)?

Another vote for the Rumbles. I have a Rumble 40 for my studio room, a 200 for rehearsal space so I don't have to schlep gear for rehearsals, and a 500 for gigs. I used to also have a Markbass CMD102P that was my preferred gigging amp. Good tones, loved the pre-fader DI, and the EQ options were...

advice for discussing some thoughts with a guitar player

Before any discussion with a lead guitarist you must hit them over the top of their head with your bass. Then he'll listen . . .

What gear carts are you guys using? Rock N Roller? On-Stage? Others?

Went with the RocknRoller R2 Micro. Hauls my Rumble 500, cable bag, pedal bag, IEM Pelican box, and 2 hard bass cases well, even over gravel lots. Being 6'4" I'd have like a longer handle, but it works.

One high-end “do it all” bass, or several inexpensive basses?

From my 1st bass, a Fender Am Jazz Deluxe (purchased because it looks like the early 70's bass my dad played), to the MIJ Fender P Bass I purchased from @Bassman8416 in 2020 (my #1 go to axe), to a Fender MIM Jazz V (sold it because it weighed a ton), to a Breedlove acoustic when I played in a...

THE BEST CHRISTMAS SONG OF ALL TIME IS...

It's not Christmas until I hear Nat King Cole say "Chet's nuts roasting on an open fire" . . . But these come in a close tie for second

    Fender Rumble Club

Hello all, it's been a few years since I posted, but have been an active lurker(I moved from New England to FL last year for the good weather ;)). I've been without a band for about a year and a half, not actively looking for a new group as I was not interested in a startup/project and have been...

    Fender Rumble Club

Well, a new Rumble was added to the collection today. I picked up a gently used Rumble 200 combo to add to my 500c and 210 cab. Thanks for the suggestions, Rumble on!

Yeah, warranty lapsed long ago, and I bought it used. It’s served me well for practice thru earphones (and can still do that), but leaves me short for a gig rig (which lets me not have to schlep rigs from my two rehearsal spaces which are each 45 minutes away). I’m not looking to spend $1,000 on...

    Fender Rumble Club

I tried the FX loop, and while there is sound, it sounds like the speakers are blown on the 210, and it's worse when I select one of the sound shapes (Contour, Vintage, etc.). On top of that, I have to crank the gain and Master up to past noon on the dial, and the volume is nowhere what I would...

Hi G-Dog, I'll give the Send/Return fix a try. I knew about the Overdrive/Mute function after reading about it here. Also, I am already a member of the Rumble Club (#1268), but thanks for watching out for me! Glad to be part of this group, I've learned (and laughed) a lot here!

Question for the Rumble hive mind . . . I currently have a 500c that I keep in the rehearsal space for one band (country), a Markbass CMD102P I keep at the rehearsal space for my other band (classic rock), and I was using a Rumble 200 head with my 210 cab for practice at home. This setup allows...
