Any bass players out there who own a reissue SVT that are interested in a fun project? Karlis (Amalgam Audio) would like to create a capture set of an SVT for bass players. He found a shop in his home country of Latvia that might loan him a reissue Ampeg SVT in exchange for a video of a bass...

Ooooo! That's all good info. I may grab one of these! I've had good luck with Zoom products in the past.

Zoot Horn Rollo - I use various plugins and Tonex amp modeling with my DAW for bass recording during song production. Do you think the MS-60B would be a good pedal to own for recording? Or is it better suited for live performance (where I can achieve similar results via Tonex/plug-ins/IR...

I highly recommend the Amalgam Super Bass capture "BASS MRSH SB100 1968 ToneX Essential" for bass guitar. I just wish he would get a couple more bass amps to capture, as his guitar amp captures are the only ones I use for guitar.

So Amalgam has intro'ed only one bass amp (last year) and has plans for another, but he seems fixated on vintage guitar amps for the past year. Has anyone found any other third-party, high-quality bass amp captures for Tonex?

Yes. I like the Amalgam captures so much I deleted all other captures (except Noble preamps) from my pedal and Tonex plug-in. (I also quit buying and trying other amp modeler/sim hardware and software.)

I don't gig as a bass player, so only using bass with the Tonex plug-in in the studio. So bass -> Cali76 -> Apollo Twin interface -> Logic Pro. My plug-in chain varies by the song, but currently I'm focusing on Tonex running the new Super Bass 100, blending it with straight DI signal. EQ...

Do you think the scale will ever tip back towards hi-fi/active basses?

I kept running down the 9V on my active bass, so I sold it.

I tried a bunch of the captures on some existing studio tracks, and they sounded great. (I'm really liking Edge Warm with the input volume turned down.) The 24 captures provide a really wide range of tones so I could always find what I needed depending on the bass used and the song. If you have...

It sounds like that video used one of the more driven captures. There are 24 captures in the set, and they go from very clean to dimed/driven, with most of the captures on the clean side. Also, Tonex is surprisingly good at mimicking the effects of the real amps controls when using the Tonex...

I can't do a deeper test until early next week, so only had an hour to spend with the captures. Wow. Just wow. Very responsive, very adaptable, very very good.

Actually, Karlis (Amalgam Audio) publicly revealed the amp he planned to use for his first bass amp capture on his gearpage forum. So here's another clue for you all...

@Giff, a few of us are beta testing the first bass amp captures from Amalgam Audio (who have done a stellar job with vintage guitar amp captures). Agreed @Jon, these captures are killer. I'm not even sure I will have any constructive criticism, they are that stellar.
