I've seen a couple heads of Carvin heads on Craigslist and now I'm looking at the GK1001RB-II which states it's a 700w/50w "bi-amp" head. I know a little about the acutal instruments but as far as bass amps I'm pretty much in the dark. What IS bi-amping? How could it be beneficial...

Streamer, hands down. It's pretty versatile and the string spacing is pretty close but not so close that you can't slap. The 505 is a "punch you in the face" bass IME and it might sound a little too aggressive depending on what kind of music you're playing. But in the end it's all up to you...
