Keyboards in Cover Bands - How do you do things?

As a keyboard player before becoming a bass player, I HATED to try to shoehorn a keyboard in where it didn't belong. I would sit out, play percussion, sing backing vox, whatever other than add something where it really didn't belong. There were however some tunes that didn't have keys where a...

    Say "Hey" If You're A J. R. R. Tolkien Fan

Absolutely! My first music teacher (when I was ~8) loaned me her copy of 'The Hobbit' and then the LoTR trilogy. It was all downhill (or Underhill) after that.

Just played a Tacoma Thunderchief Fretless!

I don't recall any noticeable difference. I play mostly unplugged anyway, so the acoustic sound was really what I was checking out.

Just played a Tacoma Thunderchief Fretless!

I actually was able to A/B (both fretted) Tacoma Thunderchief and Spector Timbre. They both sounded amazing (and comparable to my ear) acoustically. The Baggs preamp on the Thunderchief was absolutely incredible and gave the 'Chief the win in my book. That said, for what I needed & the price I...

What did you get for Father's Day?

A router.... and used it to help my son modify his road cases for easier access.

why does the moon light sonata sound good on bass?

HolyCrap! I never even thought about trying this on bass. I really ought to start thinking out of the box... I've got tons of keyboard/piano stuff that would make that nice transition. Thanks for the inspiration!

    NBD: Spector Timbre

Here's my new (and first) acoustic bass - a Spector Timbre. The shop where I purchased this also had a Tacoma Thunderchief and I was able to A/B the instruments. Even with all the mojo of the Thunderchief (and the absolutely hellacious Baggs preamp), I really preferred the feel & acoustic...

Considering going from 4 string passive to 6 string active fretless

Go for it! I can't speak to fretless but did ADD (didn't abandon my 4) a 6 stringer to the stable. It's a blast to play and opens a lot of doors sonically. My main 4 is a G&L JB-2 (nice thin jazz style neck) and I was lucky to score a Bongo 6 for ~$1200 on ebay. Now that's a really big neck...

    Starting a Prog Rock Band

Aaaah - you're breaking my heart. Too bad we aren't in the same area of the country: I cut my teeth on Keith Emerson (RIP) and Rick Wakeman in my youth. I've been predominantly playing bass the past few years, but would gladly step back behind the keys for a classic Prog band. In my area...
