I'd look for a Gibson thunderbird for around $1800 then spend the rest on a new amp and other gear I could upgrade.

Well for that much I wouldn't worry about it not being a squier. If it is cool if not then cool too as long as it feels, plays and sounds good.

It could be. The holes could have been filled and the body repainted and the little pickguard added. As for the neck plate that could have been that way or changed from a squier one to a blank one. The bridge also doesn't look like the ones I've seen on squier basses.How much did you pay?

I try not to eat meat more then twice a week. I usually eat plants and the like.

Dude on craigslist where I'm at is selling a squier affinity jazz bass for $300 because it has a different pickguard and new strings. Which we all know makes it worth $300.
