    Why play a four string?

I've been playing for 52 years, and typically play a four. I've only been on a few gigs (out of thousands--I started playing for money almost immediately after starting) that required a B or a drop D. For those, I have a six, but rarely play it. I don't begrudge those who chose to play 5 or 6...

Threatened of being fired (from 2 bands) because I won't take a spare bass...

I'm in favor of having a backup on the gig, and I 'usually' do. Nothing wrong with it. But the more important thing here is that you're working for an *******, and I have strong rules about that: life is to short, and music is too special. I also won't work with anyone who tell's me what or how...

Sell Your House and Buy This Bass

Thanks--I appreciate the clarification...but you have to admit that it looks alot like 'fake news'...

Sell Your House and Buy This Bass

Yeah it's in Australian $$, so only about $80K. The worst case I've seen of this was a maple neck fretless P that someone was trying to pass off as Jaco's main bass on EBAY a few years ago, also in the $100K + range. This is someone in China thinking that they're doing a really good job of...

Is a bass player really necessary?

Is my set-up good for next marching band season?

LOL--in 1974 I played trombone in my high school marching band, and bass in the jazz band. During football season that year, we added "Satisfaction" to the show, and I would drop my trombone and pick up my Fender Precision, which was plugged into my ACOUSTIC 371!!! We had three guys wrangling...

Considering this bass for my daughter- opinions?

I'm not a fan of that particular bass for jazz, just too one dimensional, although for a young player, it's a decent build with good value. The Squier jazz basses are better, and around the same price. My opinion, from an old HS jazz band bass player!

Have you had a chance to try the Trickfish gear?

    Chorus/Flange for fretless

I have an Aguilar chorus that I really like. But all of them....a little goes a long way.

Who Else Started Bass at 14, or some other crazy young age?

I started playing at 11. First gig for money at 12. Coming up on 50 years as a bassist.

    Trickfish?

Didn’t attend NAMM this year, but I’m all in on the Trickfish gear. I have a Bullhead 1K, two SM210V cabs (my setup for my R&B gig) and two SM112 cabs. I use one or two of those on my jazz gig. This stuff has been a revelation to me. Start flat and tune to the room, headroom to spare, and the...

What's the best modification you've made?

I put a KSM bridge on an American Special Jazz. Completely transformed the bass--in a good way. I loved the bass and bought it because of the neck, which is really nice. Everything else about it is fairly basic Jazz bass--the bridge lets it breathe!

What was your first bass guitar?

It was a white Kalamazoo, single pickup, short-scale. Bought it with a Kasino 1-15 combo amp. Nothing but name-brands for me!

    free ESP bass!

The LTD relic'd PJ basses are very, very nice. Well made, balanced, easy to play, and they sound good. They do require a fairly detailed setup.
