One of these, no doubt about it.

I was gonna say any of the B series but, damn, nevermind. lol

The only thing that i would consider changin on one of those is going without a pick guard.

I like the esp ltd B and F series with the F series being my fave. I also agree with other poster that I like the growl of the stock esp pups like on the 154dx series and under, better then the emg's on higher priced models. Esp Ltd makes excellent basses overall imo.

Even if you're not a huge fan of relic'ing per se, is it really so bad that it's a deal-breaker? I was always surprised by that. It doesn't impede tone or playability even a little and it only affects looks a bit. It's not the end of the world but that's just my opinion. :)

I know what you mean, but a local shop had a LTD Vintage 4 in stock and the relic job looked hideous! In that case it was a total deal breaker, because the bass actually played and sounded great, but it was butt ugly. And don't get me wrong, I'm actually a big fan of beat-up looking relic'd basses, but I've never been into the relic jobs LTD has put out.

Anyway, I've been told the ESP ones look better than the LTDs, but I've never seen one first hand.

Like many I haven't been a relic fan. I had been really wanting to try a Vintage 4 after recetly reading about them.

Just happened to go with a buddy to the Nashville GC 4 weeks ago. They had a used Vintage 204 (LTD). I'm a Fender man all the way ( 3 js and 1 p) and was thinking of adding a p/j in black(other 4 are black as well).

This 204 had been set up perfectly and already had a '62 Fender p pickup, Seymour Duncan Vintage j pickup, brass saddles, tort guard and electrosocket jack installed. Bridge cover as well. Strung with rounds. I generally prefer flats but the set up and sound was so good, leaving as is for now.

Gassed for a couple of days, took in a Taylor Big Baby and Danolectro U2 I haven't been playing and made a trade.

All this to say I love my new bass and would recommend one of these highly. Given the OP's situation, would go with the Vintage 4 without a doubt. His choice of color. For me paint it black. Even the relic job is light, but the neck is awesome.

A free ESP? Does that include ESP Japan models?

Get a Halibut!

Those halibuts are pretty sweet but I believe I'm limited to the US releases. If not, I'm definitely getting a Japanese model. I'll let you all know more details as I receive them. Thanks for all the responses so far. From what I have read here it seems like I may need to get out and play around with some EMG/ESP pups and find out which I like better.
