free ESP bass!

So I have a friend who has connections with ESP and is about to hook me up with a bass. I'm just curious to see what some of you would do if you were in my position.

So, if you could have any bass off the ESP website free of charge, what would you pick? Assume all hardware and electronics are stock. Also, explain why you would pick that model. I think I am leaning towards the ESP surveyor-5 in natural, but I really dig the LTD B and D series as well!
I am not really interested in suggestions as to what I should get, just curious to know what some of you would pick and why!

Believe it or not, I like the cheaper pickups under their own name. I have owned ESP's with EMG's which they put into their higher end bases and also I had a 5 stringer (Think it was a 255 model) that had standard ESP pickups. It was by far the nicer tone with heaps of growl even at lower practice volume.

Take a look at some You Tube clips with the 6 string version as they are easy to find and the cheap $400 bolt on necks have really nice tone and growl.

I would go for the phoenix-II. I've always wanted a T-bird anyways. But it looks like if you want a 5, The surveyor is the only choice. Good thing that natural/maple looks freaking sweet!!!

BTW I only looked at the ESP models. Some of the ESP/LTD models look cool, But when you get your choice for free... :hyper:

I had a B414 until I sold it just before Christmas. I loved that bass and if I didnt have a bigger need for a passive bass and an new cabinet, I NEVER would have sold it. The EMG pickups & pre were terrific but just not quite right for the classic rock project I'm involved in now.

I would have no hesitation in getting one again. The playability was excellent-it was easily the lightest bass I've ever owned at a shade under 8 lbs and I could play it for hours with no shoudler strain at all. Plus mine had a GREAT spalted maple top that drew a lot of compliments.

Oh, and if your connection happens to be in an extra generous mood- you can ship a B414 MY way!

Out of the choices, I lean towards the Surveyor, primarily because it is an ESP, not an LTD - I personally prefer the black finish.

Too bad he can't get you into an EDWARDS (ESP Japanese market only). An Edwards knocks the socks off of anything on the website link you posted.

Outstanding avatar BTW, KalTM! :)

I am not sure if I can get any of the Japanese releases, but I doubt it. They sure are amazing though! I would love one of the Bottom Bumps, or any of the edwards for that matter.

And yes.. GO PACK! (born and raised in Wisconsin, don't hate!)

Free or not, the Vintage 4 in relic'd black with maple fretboard is one of the sweetest-looking P/J's on the market. Sweet pickups, nice thin J neck and very stylish and traditional body shape. In fact, I would buy it over a Fender. Just my opinion.

I thought about this one for a while, but I just cannot dig the "wear and tear" that comes with it. If I could get it without, I would consider it. To me that's like buying jeans with holes already in them for decoration.. I just don't get it.

One of these, no doubt about it.
