    Guitarists looking down on bassists?

I take great delight in telling guitar players I don't need a capo, just tell me the chord progression and I will transpose in my head.. they often look at me blankly....

Hendrix's bass players: Noel Redding and Billy Cox:

Apologies if it has already been mentioned. Hendrix played bass on majority of tracks during the Redding period. When Hendrix hooked back up with Cox (they played together in the army), Cox told him I own the low end but the rest is yours.... so Cox played the obvious role of laying down the...

    Capo on bass?

Capo on a bass???? seriously, learn your chord theory. That's just plain lazy playing.

    Considering Taking up Keyboards

I know zero about playing piano but I have seen many a great bass player who can also smash it on the keys (John Paul Jones comes to mind). Having both disciplines surely would make you a very accomplished musician.

Whoever said Cliff Williams is a boring bass player...

Believe me, he can play awesome blues licks. I admire him because if you have ever tried to play ACDC covers for 3 hours, it is friggin traumatic to keep time in that last hour.

    Great Pick Bassist!

I know it's jazz but check out Steve Swallow

    finger cramps

Relax.....simple but true. Concentrate in being relaxed in your hands.. I have experienced the same situation where I am too tense in trying not to make mistakes... as soon as I consciously say to myself ...'relax"....tension evaporates from the hands and my playing starts to flow again.

Whose skills would you want and why? - Pick one bassist only

Said it in other threads but Jack Bruce is the man for me. Not only a virtuoso in multiple instruments but his supreme song writing skills are unbelievable. He is the allround music maestro who happens to love bass - how lucky are we.

Fatten up D and G string notes?

Hit the D&G a lot harder with a pick to punch them into the mix. Probably just me and my band dynamics but if I finger D&G, it just don't get the notes heard... mind you I am a pretty average amateur so superior finger technique maybe the answer ss well.

learning how to sing and play bass.

Couldn't sing and play to save my life... then I found when I could play the songs without thinking about it, suddenly I could sing and play. It took me a bloody long time mind you, it came down to repetition to the nth degree.

Can a bad Guitarist become a good Bassist?

I don't believe it is about being a bad guitarist becoming a good bass player. Muso's are varied and have talent in certain areas. It's about identifying where your talent resides. Not everyone is a brilliant pianist and drummer and guitarist and bass player - we find our niche. Find your niche...

Who was the first bassist that tripped your trigger?

Without doubt, Jack Bruce. Much later, really dug Billy Cox with Jimi... he held down the bottom so friggin well.

Lee Dorman, not Philip Taylor Kramer

Hmmm - not sure I agree with your assessment. His bass playing sounds very on track of providing the rhythm section of outlining the chord changes. Yes, there is a little color in the riffs but it is purely rhythm.

    Small hands

Get over it - no such thing.......

Sheryl Crow on the Cover of Holiday 2017 Bass Player

OMG - Love the philosophy - certainly my approach... I don't need to play every exact note of an original song.. as long as it sounds good, it works.....
