    NBD Douglas Violin

My wife bought me a Douglas Violin bass for my birthday. (Pics coming soon) My first impressions is that it's very good for the money. The strings are garbage but they've been replaced with a set of LaBella flats. The tuners are OK at best. They feel cheap and don't hold tuning all that...

    Maple vs. Rosewood

I prefer maple because I prefer maple. I don't disike rosewood and I've never noticed a difference in playability, I just gravite toward maple. The only practicle advantage I've ever found between the two is that maple is a bit easier to see on a dark stage.

What is the most punk rock bass you have ever seen?

Unlike this OP, this bass a player that has mods to improve it (by Mike Watt's standards) rather that to make it worse.

    Someone wants our domain name

If they fought it they'd win and get to keep their domain, but it would cost them many thousands to do so. It wouldn't be worth it.

    Someone wants our domain name

If someone wants to buy it, sell it. This plays out 1 a few ways: 1) They give you some money and you get a new domain and few bucks for the band 2) You don't sell it and the retailer never grows and you have what you have now 3) You don't sell it and the retailers grows and decides that...

The Hagstrom that got away (CL scam)

Casting a wide net? There are lots of vintage guitar collectors out there and I suppose listing this in various town across the country could yeild many emails addresses with little effort.

The Hagstrom that got away (CL scam)

Like many of you I peruse CL looking for deals on gear. I came across [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] the other day. $75 for a old Hagstrom??? What a find. So I email the guy and get no response. In the meantime, I look through the Hagstrom club on TB trying to learn more about it. It's...

12 inch speakers, shed some light??

In my younger days I preferred 10" speakers mostly for reasons that I know to be non-sense today. Today I prefer cabs with few larger speakers mostly because there are fewer points of failure and because having fewer magnets reduces weight. I went with a 212 because a 215 was simply too large...

Can anyone recommend hearing protection for musicians?

Disposable earplugs are designed for industrial use to protect hearing by reducing the frequences that damage hearing more than others. This leads to the "underwater" sound thast most people have trouble adjusting to. Musicians should use earplugs that reduce all frequencies evenly leading to...

    Sponsors , why ?

My friend's wife was a Bud Lite girl in the late 90's to make some extra money in college. A few times a month she would go to a bar show and look cute in her short-shorts and tank top and hand out swag. The bar would usually have a Bud Lite on special that night.

An Open Letter to Venues That Exploit Their Musicians

There is a popular bar/venue in Dewey Beach, DE called the Bottle and Cork. They operate exactly how the OP suggests. You can go there on any given night and expect to see a great band.

    NBD Squier Cabronita

Does the spacing of the volume and tone match a '51 precision? I think a control plate would look awesome.

    A New Fender Coronado Bass?????

I usually love CAR, I think that Fiesta Red would have worked better in this case. This is way closer to Fiesta Red than CAR:

    Stores that modify for you?

My guess is that most luthiers will do any mod you want. But don't expect low rates. I've never been into mods, but I did once have a bass defretted by a luthier and I was very happy with the result. If I had tried it it would look like Homer Simpson did it.

    Going back to 4 string.

why not restring the 5-string to have a high C?
