A New Fender Coronado Bass?????

I have a '67 Coronado II and it is a fine bass. Decent playability and a good, hollow-body sound. Maybe mine is an anomaly, or the few you played were unusually bad specimens.

JMJ has played one and a few other studio guys I can't think of have used them from time to time. It is probably not a sound you want for most genres or all the time, but that doesn't mean it is worthless.

I owned a '67 for two years; hardly ever used it. The setup was such that it was seemingly impossible to get the notes above fret 12 on E and A to not fret out due to them smacking into the neck pickup.

It is definitely a one-trick pony. I liked the sound though.

I'm under the impression from my Fender Rep that these will be made in Japan. I will not say that with certainty. Also...If you're looking at fender basses...wait a month. The Fender Dimension Basses are coming out soon. They're a departure from what fender had been doing for a while...worth checking out. The Specs are impressive.

Yeah, they are most definitely MIC. On one hand, it's a little disappointing since I would prefer MIM quality, but if it is keeping the price down, with the promise of American versions, that would be great. At the same time, this probably will mean there will be no squier versions.

They're up for pre-order on Andertons in the uk, saying they should be available by Christmas. They look great but they're almost £300 more the the Modern Player Jazz, Jaguar, and Dimension models. Seems like a big jump up.

At £400, it'd be an interesting thing to have, although my use for it would be limited. At nearly £700, its not something I'll likely ever purchase, which is a shame.

How do we know they are MIC? Country code doesn't say so explicitly and Fender doesn't publish that info. Special Edition could very well be MIK, Used to be anywho. Where are Electromatic Gretsch made? Maybe these come from there/ We have them online now and on order. I don't have an ETA yet.

Oh no they will retail for $750 but who pays retail when there is literally a sale all the time at any number of places.

The Gretsches are MIC IIRC. One may also assume they are MIC because everything else in the Modern Player Series is.

The prices for both the Coronado and the Starcaster are now listed at the Fender website as MSRP $999.00. I have yet to hear of any USA mainland retailer publishing a "street price" on either of these models. Only the "pre-order" place on eBay. Wouldn't the street price be less than $750.00, judging from previous models pricing?

I just checked seven major retailers, and the only ones showing these new models is Full Compass. Their description says they are available for special order, and should ship in 3-4 weeks. All colors available as well. BTW..."street price" is apparently $749.95

It would not appear that being made in China has hurt the sales of the Jack Casady model Epiphone. I can't imagine that Fender will have any problem, either. If they can't meet an average price point of $300.00, they can't sell them as Squiers, so they'll have to be Modern Player Fenders to fetch these kind of prices.

I think there is plenty of people ready to look into semi-hollowbody guitars with a major factory name on them for a reasonable price point. Not everyone can afford a White Falcon or an E335, etc.

Speaking of White Falcons, I wish that one of these were being made in WHITE!
