I'm speculating... but maybe this will be another "Pawnshop" model. The black bass in the pictures looked like it had a reversed headstock maple neck.

A New Fender Coronado Bass?????

Additionally, through doing more snooping of my own on OSG and Harmony Central, the rumors are these (or at least the Starcaster) will be CIJ. But in all honesty, I'm going to put my money on MIK, seeing as Fender already has the gearing there to make semi-hollows (Gretsch and Guild). If they are CIJ or MIK, I will be super happy. Say what you will, I have my preferences. But if the Coronado Bass comes in Antigua from Japan or Korea, I will flip. Seriously, bonkerstime. And if they just so happen to add in a Coronado XII to the guitar line? So long bank account.

I don't want to look too picky or something, but for the Coronado I would also have done the headstock in black as the original....
OMG that bass is just pure sex. I have been lusting for a semi-hollowbody for some time now. If only Fender would continue their dice-rolling with Squier and bring out a VM or Classic Vibe version of this I could end my GASsing for one!

I have a '67 Coronado II and it is a fine bass. Decent playability and a good, hollow-body sound. Maybe mine is an anomaly, or the few you played were unusually bad specimens.
JMJ has played one and a few other studio guys I can't think of have used them from time to time. It is probably not a sound you want for most genres or all the time, but that doesn't mean it is worthless.
I am totally with you: it definitely is an acquired taste, but an excellent one!!!

I have a '67 that I've owed for years and years, and it has always been my favorite bass to play. It is so different than my Jazz that comparing them to each other doesn't even make sense. It's such a rare instrument that I've never even heard one live other than mine. As for feedback on stage, it was always controlled in my hands, only feeding back when I wanted it to, by getting close to the speaker cab, back in my psychedelic rock days. I have played many different styles with if over the years with no problem. However, slapping it ain't happenin', at least not for me. I sang lead in most of my bands, and since it is shortscale, it has always be the easiest to play while singing.
Someone asked about PUP, mine has a Rowe neck, and Lindy Fralin bridge. It's takes long scale strings, and is strung with Chromes.
Does this sound thin to you?

It kinda didn't. According to Guitar Aficionado, there were only ever 3 documented prototypes, and one was purported to have been lost in a music store fire. The one pictured sold for $20K @ CME, WITHOUT the original bridge.
So much lore surrounding this thing. My GAS pains for the reissue are really bad.
So what is Fender's pattern with NAMM releases? If they show the new Starcaster at NAMM in January, will it be released for sale at the same time? Or do they usually come out a certain number of weeks or months later? Or do they ever release a new model for sale before its debut at the show?
That Starcaster bass looks awesome! I love the headstock shape it reminds me of the Carvin SB headstock. The Coronado is cool but I always thought they were a lttle on the ugly side. Of course if I were to get a hollow or semi-hollow bass I'd probably just get an Ibanez Artcore.
If you take a closer look at the Vine, you'll find that the Starcaster guitar has 4 knobs instead of the original 5 (master volume) along with the truss rod adjustments and the Coronado having Filtertrons so these are definitely legitimate and I am so so excited about it.
Looks promising, only a bit of a pity that they went for the Thundertron pickups. Part of the charm of the Coronado are those DeArmond/Rowe pickups, with their distinct voicing because of used gauge of wire, winding pattern and construction:
The more I read/look at these new basses. Ready black starcaster is one of the nicest instruments I've seen in a while, and if these are offered at a reasonable price point with good quality, I will have a tough time not buying one. Anyone able to compare one of the new wrhb's to the originals found in the telecaster bass?
