A New Fender Coronado Bass?????

I've owned a few Coronado I's and II's. I liked the way that they played, but IMO, the weakest part of them were the pickups. so if they're using gretsch ones now, I think that it'll sound ALOT better than an original.

it's hard to tell from the pic.
vintage gretsch basses had supertrons (like my '68 6073 has) which are blade pickups, but the new ones look like filtertrons or, more likely, thundertrons.

Well, I seriously doubt Fender will use crappy pickups on them.
Maybe not the best, but definetely not 'bad'.

There is a Coronado bass sitting in my local music store. When it arrived about a month ago, I ran over there to play it immediately. I'm pretty sure it's a late 60s model. The neck felt incredible and the acoustic tone was wonderful, but the electric sound left a lot to be desired in my opinion. I like short scale basses, and I like hollow body basses. If that bass had Fender Jazz pickups in it, it would be absolutely amazing. The tone just did not do it for me. I was disappointed.

Black Starcaster looks like heaven. If its a SS with a jazz nut and the balance is pretty good then I'm all in.

Additionally, through doing more snooping of my own on OSG and Harmony Central, the rumors are these (or at least the Starcaster) will be CIJ. But in all honesty, I'm going to put my money on MIK, seeing as Fender already has the gearing there to make semi-hollows (Gretsch and Guild). If they are CIJ or MIK, I will be super happy. Say what you will, I have my preferences. But if the Coronado Bass comes in Antigua from Japan or Korea, I will flip. Seriously, bonkerstime. And if they just so happen to add in a Coronado XII to the guitar line? So long bank account.

Hmmm. Looks like the Starcaster bass may have been the inspiration for the Invalid Link Removed. The body shape is definitely very similar.

In other news, it looks like a Babicz high mass bridge on the Starcaster, which will be cool. Now is a good time to talk about fender reissue WRHB bass pickups vs. original. I know on the guitar front, the reissues for guitar are nothing like the originals, and many people swap out the stock ones for "real" WRHBs from people like Lollar and The Creamery. Is this the case for these pickups?

Don't know about guitar version, but I find bass' WRHB is close to the original from 70's.
