A New Fender Coronado Bass?????

Like Fender cannot honestly say it launched the 1st P/J, or all these P/P,P/HM,HB/HB combo's, or J's with P necks or P's w/J necks - all of these "inovations" have been cultivated by Fender for years from the continuous flow of front-line DIY'rs in the background, whether professional players (and thier luthiers), or on tb or some other guitar/bass-centric site - they mine the street.

Leo was a leader - CBS and beyond, Fender was a follower. Maybe today Fender is a gambler. As long as they keep the quality high - I'll hang on their shoulder at the table.

I was at lollapallooza this weekend and had the great honor of being in the artist area and being able to play all the basses fender had out. I played both the starcaster and coronado. THey both were so awesome. THe starcaster had a much beefier and neck and sound to me. it was pretty awesome. i believe the guy said that they will be released at namm next year but i could be wrong. Also i believe they will be made in china.

Actually, Fender has always tried to bring more innovative products to market but none of them have really caught on in a big way until the Jaguar. Here's a couple really cool articles from fender.com:

And those articles leave out a few as well, including the P Lyte and the Roscoe Beck sigs. So the idea that Fender has ever rested on its laurels seems kind of silly to me. Obviously it's not true.

Well, I hate to be that guy, but...if they are made in China, I probably won't be considering them. Made in Korea like the new Guilds? Eh, more likely to, but if these were MIA, I'd be all over them. Heck, I'd even take MIM, but something about MIC Fender's...doesn't quite sit right with me. I'm sure it will once they've been around longer, but I don't get why the MIC Fenders aren't just Squiers. These should go in the AVRI line, that would do them some proper justice.

I felt the exact same way about wanting a jazzmaster bass so I ended up just making my own:

Oh man you're the guy who made those? Man i looked them up one time and i wanted one bad. I wanted to start saving up to see if i could one day order one but i never ended up getting enough and gave up lol.

Look at the Modern Player stuff coming out now as further examples of new, from Fender.

While there have certainly had some innovation recently, it seems that in general, fender has begun to rest on it's traditional models. They have like 25 separate models of precisions and jazzes, 3 mustangs, 2 telecasters, and 2 bass vi. I think the most original bass fender has come out with in the past few years has been the pawn shop reverse jaguar bass, which people seemed to bash. I'm glad fender are beginning to give new life to old models, but what I really want to see is some innovation and passion. Hopefully fender will see that investing in some R&D once they see that people want new and exciting basses, not just their 7th p bass (this one has flat wounds AND 500k pots).

Edit: I just remembered the dimensions bass was just released, that's more what we need.

It seems like these will end up being a part of the modern player series, if it is going to be made in china like others have said. I have a feeling they are going to be for sale about 650-700? Colors: who knows. The sunburst Coronado is the only one we've seen. At least the starcaster looks to be available in black.
