A New Fender Coronado Bass?????

I usually love CAR, I think that Fiesta Red would have worked better in this case.

This is way closer to Fiesta Red than CAR:

What they should have done was AZTEC GOLD!

It would not appear that being made in China has hurt the sales of the Jack Casady model Epiphone. I can't imagine that Fender will have any problem, either. If they can't meet an average price point of $300.00, they can't sell them as Squiers, so they'll have to be Modern Player Fenders to fetch these kind of prices.

I think there is plenty of people ready to look into semi-hollowbody guitars with a major factory name on them for a reasonable price point. Not everyone can afford a White Falcon or an E335, etc.

Speaking of White Falcons, I wish that one of these were being made in WHITE!

Mike in Texas

One can get a 60's Coronado for $1000-$1500; it seems rather silly to pay a little less for a Squier with a Fender decal.

well, Michael: I just placed and paid the equivalent of 820 euro (delivered UK to Italy) and I don't feel silly at all: to each his own, I guess. Here in Europe you can just dream of finding an original Coronado II for less than 1400/1500 euro in the first place. Second I definitely like to have my Coronado brand new vs. a used: modern technologies, less tolerances, better and more durable finish, hardware. It will grow old and broken in with me.

Made in China? Do we still go there? Everything is made in China, lately: look at your smartphone anyway! And, tell me, owning a G&K MB200 head made in China is considered less outrageous than my Coronado (marked as Fender)? (I will eventually own both!)

Just now I received from Anderton's UK the possible realistic delivery date: end of october! But I don't mind: when you're in love you're sort of blind. But you're half right I guess. Maybe not silly: just plain crazy... ;)

> A Squier with the Fender decal...

Sheeeshh: that is the best. So, if it is made in China automatically we know it's not a real Fender... I Just remember the early eighties (IIRC) when Fender shifted everything in Japan: sacrilege, end of the world. Now Fender MIJ are really sought after... as are the (horrible at that time) mid seventies ones anyway... The drama of life is that everyone has his own good reasons...

I haven't ever seen one that cheap. Also don;t seem to be many of them for sale. And third... the originals I have come into contact with didn't seem very giggable to me. I certainly wouldn't take one on the road. Binding falling apart, poor intonation/pickups etc.

MIC isn't as cheap as it was a few years ago. their prices and standard of living are catching up with them. So is the quality of the work. People used to say the same thing about MIK. And before that people ragged on Fender for daring to produce something in Japan. I actually had someone turn down a bass I was trying to sell when he saw that on the neck.

Let's all reserve judgment until we get our hands on one.

Same exact scale length.

yes: this just means that if you want to put a Starcaster neck on a Coronado body you need to route one fret space more in the Coronado body to accomodate the neck so that the intonation at bridge is met! Viceversa (Coronado neck on Starcaster body) you will have on the body a... hole for 1 fret length between the end of the neck and the body for the same reason...

But I might be wrong: check with your eyes the Starcaster neck and count the frets by yourself... I counted 22...

;)

Now you have seen 'em. There was also a II that ended last night for about $850, Ebay completed listings are too incompetent to show it yet.

About 3.5 years ago, I got the II I had for about $1050. It was the burst.

Binding falling apart? They have the same quality binding as any 60's or 70's Jazz. Mine had no binding issues. I could gig with it, just had to know how to act.

Never said anything about quality. I said, they are exactly like Squier except with Fender decal if they turn out to be made in China. No difference, bet a vintage Coronado on it. I have no interest in paying $750 for a $300 Squier. That's my own opinion; then again, my money don't grow on no trees. Fender made the "Modern Player" to make profit. The "Apple model" of business in 2013. If they keep heading that way, I'll source my purchases to more... friendly enterprises. Also, although I will attempt to avoid getting further down that road, I will state that in the past few years, China's "std" has hardly changed to justify such a jump. If so, Squiers would be $600-$700.

Not sure how you get "Apple model". Also not sure how you decide what cost should be for this product. The market decides that as well as Fenders costs. I'm sure you don't have those handy. What makes a Squier? The factory? Why makes a Fender? They build them in the US, Mexico, Japan, Korea and now China. Heck the previous "Starcaster" was a $99 Fender branded instrument made in Indonesia. My advice? Don't buy one.

So basically, you're saying that you're against Fender making a profit? The company is in business to make money. That's also the "Apple model of business" as well. By more friendly enterprises you mean companies that aren't interested in making a profit? You'll have a hard time finding one of those.

Fender makes all of their instruments to make a profit, don't they?

by your apparent disgust for the "apple model" do you simply mean building stuff cheaply in china and then selling at a huge profit? because that I can understand. but surely you don't fault companies just for trying to make a profit...? that's not inherently a bad thing.
