I emailed Fender today about the Starcaster and they said they should be arriving in the store in about 2 weeks. They suggested I contact a retailer to see when they will be available for sale.

A New Fender Coronado Bass?????

Others in this thread have said they sell between $1200-$1500 typically so if that's what they go for then the starting bid being $1000 shouldn't matter because that was still less than what they sell for and no bid on it
Cabronita. And yes they're both Gretsch pickups.
I would like to know if the Starcaster pickups are the same as the Pawnshop Mustang because those are HUGE.

that'll change just like "made in japan" changed from meaning "cheap" to "precision-made"...
they've already proved themselves in terms of fender-on-the-headstock quality, the chinese.
It did sell! I grabbed that one locally, He had it listed in craigslist at the same time. It's a cool bass, I can't wait to try a new one though. I know they're going to be great.
Yeah, right now lots of made in China products have crossed the line between cheaply made and a real bargain...

Yes to your first question. Over-simplified but yes. I have no problem with margins. Nope to your second. It makes no logical sense to take my comment down that path (although a few tried because it's easy to dismiss what I said by doing so; I noticed nobody focused on the rest of what I said).
My point being, ad nauseum, there's no point for me to pay $750 for a Fender when Squier is $300 and I get the same thing. There will be no difference in quality. By that I mean, still good quality...but I would rather get a USA Fender for a few hundred more new and a couple hundred less used. Fender said, "hey, let's make Fenders in China and double the price." 5-10 years ago, these would not have Fender on the headstock. I am not O.K. with that. I won't get into why my opinion is that it's not O.K. because that would take the thread another direction. I'm sure those who have thought-powers know what I'm getting at. People who buy these are paying $300-$400 more for a Fender decal, IMHO. Sort of ironic as many on the forum deride the cult of branding.
In any case, I have begun to stray from Fender anyways as an owner (besides vintage). I still have a fond appreciation for the USA and Japan lines though.
I posted this in the starcaster thread, also. Parkway Music in Clifton Park NY currently has a 67 Coronado II in sunburst for $999 with case. The dual thumbrests have been removed and the holes filled, and a thumbrest has been added in-line with the e string. I'm not in the market for one, and I don't know if they sell online, but it couldn't hurt to ask. Or if you're anywhere close to the capital district ny area it may be worth a trip.
...anybody having any clue about possible delivery of first Coronados in the shops anywhere on the planet please be good and post it here, so I will be legitimated to push Anderton's in England (where I bought my own....) !!!

now, out of the excitement of the first news about a few weeks ago, let's take a moment and think about the real importance of the fact:
Fender is re-entering in the market with a line of electric hollows!!!
Boy this is a real "move" from the mainstream for this company. If I don't recall it wrong, last attempts Fender did about these was with a hollow simil Les Paul / PRS, a Robben Ford signature... am I wrong? I would tend to exclude from the hollow department the chambered Tele Thinline or the MIJ Jazz; just talking about real semihollows / hollows...
Hope that this will be fruitful, business wise, so they will keep the hollow department steady along the time...

Wow, the new Coronado and Starcaster semi-hollow basses look pretty awesome, although $750 street for a Chinese-made bass is a bit steep (not too bad, but a little steep). I wonder if the price includes a case?
No case included. And AFAIK there is no case available. Have to carry them around in a garbage bag I guess.
Well, I'm sure there's some semi-hollow bass case into which these will fit, but finding that case might be a bit of a chore.
Let's please remember that we're not talking about a "Chinese-made" bass ordered through "Made-in-China.com" or "Trade-Key", we're talking about a bass made to spec and ordered by FMIC. As pretty much all of us have seen in other manufactured goods, China is simply a manufacturing base. They have inexpensive labor. They will build your products according to what you order.
If you order "the cheapest possible product to maximize our profit", then they will certainly do so. They will also build superlative, first-rate product if you're willing to pay for it.
Does anyone here seriously believe that Fender would intentionally R&R, design, prototype a couple of brand new hollowbody basses and then order their licensed Chinese manufacturer to "make the cheapest possible product so that we can maximize our profit"?
Of course they stand to make money. But they also have an investment in these new basses, and a chance to penetrate a segment of the market they have not competed in for as long as most people can remember.
I'm guessing that their profit margin percentile on both the Starcaster and the Coronado will be similar to what they currently manage with the CV line of basses. I think we can all agree that manufacturing a semi or full hollowbody bass is more expensive that building a solidbody.
So the belief that somehow we're getting basses that are only worth $300.00 I think misses the mark. I believe that the Starcaster/Coronado series of basses are a premium product which cost much more to make and worth more than the CV and VM series.
