I had this very issue with my SVT Classic, only difference was, that the classic would distort and then lose volume. Turned out to be one faulty power valve. Once replaced and re-biased, worked perfectly.
I have BH250 and BAM200, both excellent and solidly built. I also have a BC208 which is an awesome little cab! However, as much as I like TC gear, I totally adore my Bugera BV1001T. Check that out for fun
One word, YES! There is nothing like an Ampeg SVT Classic for tone and power and it’s hidden secret, completely plug n play. I totally adore them except for the weight. However, if you are fit enough, you’ll love it!
ps, if you are not overly bothered about brands for cabs? The Hartke AK410 is...
I’d be somewhat surprised if you bought lemon considering Yamaha’s quality control process? Their instruments are quality checked and produced to the nth degree of perfection. Not having a dig at your luthier but I’d be a little concerned at his statements.
Being in a band is like being in a relationship, if you’re not happy, you leave. I would hate to feel trapped or trap someone in a situation they were not happy or fully into so, emotional intelligence suggest, you play the gigs, say fare the well and you all pick yourselves back up to get on...
Carrying on from some previous threads re buying for looks, good or bad? I decided to start a thread about cheap gear and what you have bought that has totally surprised you?
When I started playing bass around 1980 at the age of 13, buying gear was a bit of a hit or miss in terms of quality. My...
Communication and trust is key here and and like others have mentioned, sit the guy down and chat with him to highlight your concerns. It appears you like the band and the guy so, would appear easier to shoot straight down the middle on this one. I know its tough and some egos may get in the way...
should try the Bugera Veyron. It is so Ampeg! Three tubes in the preamp and digital out. Says on the glossary that it’s 2000w but more like 600w or 800w max. It’s a stunner!

I’d have another SVT Classic in a heartbeat if could afford it! It is a must for every bass player to experience how amazing these heads are - they epitomise plug n play.
I’m fortunate to own and SVT 3pro and PF50t but my main amp of the moment is the monstrously loud and light, Bugera...
US or MIJ instrument, straight neck and low action, 3mm on the e-string. Difficult to get right but so satisfying when you get it right on a straight flat neck
Anchoring points for my thumb! Still trying to find it. Was cool on my old Yamaha TRB5 mk1 (bridge pup) but have never felt the same on any other bass.
Manufacturing and quality control processes have improved dramatically over the last 40 years. It was really difficult to buy an entry level bass as a 14 year old in 81’ that was near the quality and price range of Yamaha, Cort, Squier, Ibanez etc.
I agree had Badass and Schaller high mass bridges in the past and I still go back to the Fender deluxe bass bridge although the slightly higher mass Fender deluxe bridge is nice too.
Yes they are very good. Check out all the vids on YouTube. I also own a Bugera BV1001T and a T5 Infinium, both are excellent and my BV1001T is the go to amp for me for everything. Well, except for my home practice rig which is a Hotone nano Thunder Bass and TC Electronic BC208.
Harley Benton and Bugera do good bass cabs. You can get them at Thomann who ship anywhere in Europe. They also do B-stock.

It would be this for me: EBMM Stingray - Bugera Veyron BV1001T - Hartke AK410.
I would ideally love to have an Ampeg SVT Classic and 8x10 cab but, no chance!
Absolutely! I have a 3pro and a B410hlf as my back up rig, its a bit of a monster! But, as many have said, it takes time to get used to the way the 3pro works. However, take time, be patient and you'll be rewarded with a power house of sublime tone.
My experience thus far ...
Kilo - stunning!
LH1000 - stunningly stunning!
LH500 - wonderful
AK410 - Fantastic cab!
Larry Hartke - Good man with incredible integrity in his business! Who else gives a f**k as much as he does? To the point where he interacts here, gives out his mobile number and...
Hey Jimmy,
There is only one 810! Some already know it and others wont admit to it! Ampeg 810e everyday of the week and... everyone should own one at some point in their playing career!

Hiya, the Peavey rage158 I didn't think a lot of. The perfect ten combo is much better than the after eight however, £100 would get you a used Perfect ten minirig which again is much better than the aforementioned.

Hi folks,
Been having a chat on Facebook with a friend re Hartke, another Facebooker joined the conversation and stated he owned a kilo! Wow I thought! These aren't supposed to be available yet...Fantastic! I asked him where he got it and he replied that it was available everywhere on line...
Fender Classic 50's Precision (MIM) is the best pbass I have played except for the Fender 57 pbass (USA). £569 UK pounds new here in Edinburgh. Stunning utterly stunning Fender bass.

Not true. I had mk1 trb5 for years, it was awesome and gigged it to death in my rock band. What an edge and performance. Rocked like a rocky thing playing rock!
However, I quite like the 5501 and Barts are great on it. I guess it comes down to simple choice of ones preferred tone. But, in my...
The 515 rig is killer! I had one and now miss it dearly. Fantastic practice rig was great at gigs too. Very robust rig actually, the 100w head ran my Ampeg 810 beautifully when it had to - valve head in for repair.
