Actually that is not true at all. The last audition had only one finalist and he doesn't study with Levinson. The panel will probably have 3 maybe 4 bass players. The rest are principal members of various sections as well as the conductor. So even if the bass players love you and want you to win...

Not a huge factor at all. Levinson will usually try to encourage his students to switch to German so he can really give them the most he can offer. I was in Tim's studio and 2 of his students switched to German because they felt it was easier and more comfortable for certain things.

I don't think Robin ever graduated (tho he did receive a honorary degree later) I heard two stories involving him. 1. The teachers told him that he was so talented that any further education would only hold him back. 2. He was caught streaking around the school so he got kicked out. :D

It's possible that you may be accepted into the studio that you don't want to be in (although I rarely see that happen) if that's true you just contact the teacher who you want to study with and first of all make sure it's possible to transfer into their studio. Sometimes they are just too many...

I would have to agree that this thread got out of hand. Every audition should be taken seriously no matter how "selective" it may be. Practice hard and and focus when you do no school is out of reach
