    Soundchecks all that worthwhile???

That's my point, we all know (or at least pretend to know) what we're doing, is it that hard to set die levels and not have an hours worth if mindless tweaking? I can't take it anymore...?

    Soundchecks all that worthwhile???

I'm talking the bar gigs most of us do, not arena shows!! It seems to me that sound checks nowadays have become so ingrained as part of the process that they barely serve a purpose anymore?. Case in point, I played as a sub with a trib band where the check lasted 1.5 hours, minus mic checks!. I...

Fender Aerodyne Jazz vs Fender Duff McKagan P

Having owned both, my vote is for the aerodyne. Duffs bass is awesome, however it's very much duffs bass, ie the Geddy jazz is as versatile as you wanna make it, whilst the duff sig gives you that appetite tone and nothing else. To avoid any confusion, Duff is the reason I picked up a bass in...

    What's his problem??

My little bro's band takes some beating... ...he's not allowed to use his warwick, it has to be a P. A Fender P. He has a black Squire P, this is not good enough. He has to use his guitarists Fender P instead. Also, the guitarist has to sell his PRS and buy a Fender tele. The drummer...

ADVICE FROM FLAT WOUND USERS PLEASE

Everyone seems to be looking for a brighter flat at the moment, I jumped in the deep end with some La Bellas when I switched. Now I play RS66's on my p/j and La Bella 760FL's on my P. You can't really get much different in sounds but thats what led to roundwounds in the first place right...

To tour or not to tour, THAT is the question!

I don't have any worldly advice like the rest of these guys, but I can say that I wish i was in your shoes man!!!. I "toured" once, 7 nights, 5 shows around the UK in the worst pubs and clubs imaginable booked by our s****y agent who really didnt care as long as we turned over money for...

    Being a female bassist..

Thought i's share this story, made me laugh thinking back on it:- Guitar, Amp and Keyboard centre in Brighton, went there with my wife, who had purposely taken me there to buy the Duff McKagan sig bass (VR did an instore signing and he signed a couple they had in stock). I mentioned that...

Bugera ???? Not so poplular here, but....

I've had a behringer bx4500h head for years, 2 as my main and now 2 as a back-up. Nice sounding amp and has never once had anything go wrong with it. Obviously you cant compare them to GK or Ampeg, but if your doing that then you must just have nothing better to do???:hiding:

A drummer you'd like to jam with?

I'll go out on a limb and say Steve Adler......Slash himself says "Steven was always underrated in G N'R, but he gave appetite its groove" Plus the guy knows how to party, which would be a massive bonus!!!!:bassist:

How did your first gig go?

My first ever gig I was on guitar and vocals, my bassist was a guy I taught the songs to in the week leading up to the gig and the drummer was one of those who actually a half-decent player but never put the work in or learned when a song ended. Changes didn't happen, songs didn't finish...

"I heard last year, and I don't know if it's true but if it is in fact true, I think that people around here probably heard it too and maybe know more about it than I do. Hearing protection

Thats why I rave about mine Jazzman, they arent your usual "stuff 'em down your ear canal, one size fits all" type plugs. In fact, they dont go into your ear canal at all. they are silicone based balls which you can mould into the shape of your ear, then place over your ear canal, stretch them...

    Hearing protection

Not sure if you can get these where you are, but these are what I use and they have saved me gig after gig. -22db noise cut might be a bit much for some people but I value my hearing in years to come so I don't really care. Do you ever lose confidence and enjoyment in your playing?

I just got myself out of a HUGE rut by blowing far too much money on a home studio. Worked for me because now instead of just playing around on bass or guitar and jamming/writing from memory I can take ideas i've had for years and finally turn them into fully formed songs. Its given me so much...

    This ain't right, is it?

Ok, long story short...a "label" based here in the UK, which shall remain nameless, had me come down for an audition and have decided they want to "take me on and develop me as an artist". (The audition was as a singer/songwriter... I write all my stuff on guitar, plus I get to be my own...

    LaBella/RotoJazz flats?

These are the only 2 flat brand I have ever used so hopefully this will be of some help:- I bought the 77's out of curiosity about flats, as I was an exclusive swingbass user at the time so it made sense!. Hated them right out the box, hated them when they started mellowing and still hate...

A lot of people will rip on this, don't listen to them!!!. This thing is awesome, I used one as my main for years and its still going strong as my back-up now. It is LOUD, and you pretty much can't blow it either which is a bonus. Fair enough, its never gonna match a GK/Ampeg/whatever for...

    Why must this happen...

This isn't about my band situation, not that there is one at the moment, but the fact that wherever you turn nowadays its about numbers and whether a band is good or not doesn't seem to matter as long as you can bring people through the door. I've both been to and played gigs where you look at...

Duff signing my fender Duff signature series

Matt, I used a clear, adhesive strip thats normally used to protect the wheel arches of your car from stone chips/Road debris etc. Its holding up just fine after 17 months, takes to the finish of the bass really well. Cut it to a circular shape so theres no sharp corner to get pulled up...
