Best of the "fly rig" genre of multi-effect?

I'll second Steve's comment. I use a Tech 21 Acoustic fly rig for bass. Has a good tuner, passable compressor, good boost, REVERB! (which I love!) and a usable chorus/delay. This pedal has almost convinced me to go ampless. I would like to try the bass version, but this acoustic does so well...

Need help on choosing short scale flats!

Wow, thanks for all the replies! I am not buying another set of strings looking for a sound, I HAVE to buy new strings and WANT a certain sound out of them. Thought for a long time it was dead rounds until I put the Fender flats on the P... Oh yes, now we're talking! I've had the chromes for...

Need help on choosing short scale flats!

Thanks Michael T. Hadn't even thought about groundwounds. I was worried that the Dunlops would sound more "modern", based on some of the reviews I've read. I'm just trying to narrow it down, because I'll be stuck with these strings for a while. Maybe I should move the chromes over to the...

Need help on choosing short scale flats!

So, just finished refinishing my Bronco Bass from black to some sort of aqua color (I'm not good with colors so that's about as specific as I can be!) So my dilemma: I like dead rounds, broke a string a while back and just replaced it with a single and was whining on here about the zing on that...

    I HATE new strings!

Ok, update... I took everyone's advice and ordered a set of Fender flats. I am a convert! I'll never by rounds again! I may be in the minority here, but I think they make the tone knob actually usable. I'm on a budget, so it will be a while before I can try different sets to really dial it...

    I HATE new strings!

Just to clarify, I did put a new SET of strings on, but holy moly! That was too much! Figured I'd put the good strings back on So I could stand to play again. So I did the Eucerin cream on the new strings, few times now. Seems to work well, back to a dead sound but with bright, clean looking...

    I HATE new strings!

So long story short, my drummer thought he was Bootsy and broke my G string (on my bass!) My wife has stated I need a tetanus shot to touch my bass, so I bought new rounds. Another long story short... my bass now has 3 old strings and 1 new string that sounds awful! I've read on here that...

SWR 15" got me going in this madness and still sits next to my bed, play it almost every day. My condolences to all family and friends. And my gratitude. RIP SWR.

The Squier Mini Precision Bass Club

Here is my ask of you fellows that have one of these in hand: Will they fit a strat hard case or bag? I can't seem to find the total length of these little basses anywhere. This will be my next bass, but I need a way to schlep it around with all the other stuff. Wish Fender would do a run...

Any opinions on the old Kustom tuck n rolls? Any good?

Well, I have the same setup but in black and the best thing I ever did to it was put the head on an old Peavey 2-15 cab! The Peavey is about the same height, a little wider and MUCH deeper. Sounds great. I love the amp, but the cab is not that good in my opinion. But they do look cool!

Anyone else have Logo "Reverse Prejudice"?

Well, I was in GC with $800 to spend on my first bass and I walked out with a $250 Gretsch Electromatic Jr. bass. I hated the color (too close to black), didn't want a short scale bass (after reading on here and other places, I was sure that I needed a long scale), and can't stand the LP body...

    My squier project

Since ther have been no replies, I will get you going with a very generic response. Look up all the posts to whats been done already, as chances are anything you can think of will have already happened in some form or another. I would probably start with the pups, wiring and controls then move...

Amp repair Questions... Tube and solid state

Ok, I have 2 amps that need work. 1st is an Ampeg B200R that I believe the pre-amp tube is going bad. If I tap on the tube should I hear something through the speaker? I can thump it pretty hard and get nothing through the speaker. Second amp, an old Kustom 250 tuck n roll. This has...

    I'm new here...

I'm going to go against the grain here and recomend a Gretsch. This was my first bass and the one I still play most of the time. It's a 30" scale so would make coming from guitar a breeze. The pickup is absolutely wonderful (NO upgrade to that needed!) Will come in right at your budget, too...

    ampeg B200R tube bad... Help!

Well I'll definetly lokk for NOS in a couple weeks when I rebound from school starting up. I will have to hear the new Ampegs to know for sure. I played through an original B15 when I bought the B200R but just couldn't afford it at the time. LOVED the sounds coming out of that amp, though...

    peavy amps

I have never found a Peavey amp I fell in love with, but every one I played seemed very capable of decent tone, just not the tone I was after. (I fell in love with Ampeg and to a lesser extint an old tucked Kustom.) I did however buy a Peavey 2x15 cab to use with the Kustom. That made all the...

    tube amp hiss

I can't speak for pure tube amps, but I do have a hybrid Ampeg and it is very quiet. The only hiss I ever get is when the tube starts going out (unfortunately that is happening again now!) Otherwise it just sounds great.

    ampeg B200R tube bad... Help!

Yes, I love this amp! It just has my sound in it. The SWR I have is a nice amp, but I just constantly fiddle with it trying to dial ME in, and it never is really there. It does sound nice just not spot on. But anyway, I have always put Groove Tubes in this amp 'cause that was in it from the...

    ampeg B200R tube bad... Help!

Well, I think I will just skip the 12AX and wait untill I have the cash for a new 12AU. I pulled the chassis and tube out and it doesn't appear to have dirty contacts anywhere (It may just be the CLEANEST thing in my house!) But I sprayed contact cleaner on the socket and pins and buttoned it...

    ampeg B200R tube bad... Help!

Yeah, I hear that pre-amp tubes last forever. But this is the second one I will replace in this amp and the 3rd it has had in it. I know it's the tube because it's acting the same way it did last time it went out. Mine seem to last about 4 years in this amp. Maybe I have a problem with the...

    ampeg B200R tube bad... Help!

My tube has almost died in my amp. It has a 12AU7 in there now. Could I replace this with a 12AX7 or would that mess something up? I am strapped for cash and can't afford a new tube for a couple weeks, but have the 12AX7 already. Could I use this until I can get the right tube? I just don't...

Help with truss rod- Squier Jazz

Just thought I'd let everyone know, after a couple weeks this thing plays great! The neck settled in nicely and after a setup I love the way this bass plays. Not too crazy about the sound, but man that Jazz neck is nice! I think I must be more of a P-bass fan. I may just swap this neck onto...

How do pickups get their "sound"?

How do pickups get their "sound"?

Thanks darkstorm. I guess I need to find out how the stock one is constructed and go from there. I def want one that is "hotter" than whats in there now. I was thinking humbucker to get rid of the noise, but I have a Gretsch with a humbucker that sounds completely opposite this one with the...

How do pickups get their "sound"?

OK, maybe a dumb question. What makes a pu sound different from the next? Why do some sound warm and others clean, etc? I just got my daughter a Bronco and am really impressed with it overall. I would like to swap the pickup and get "more" of what I like out of it. I just don't know what to...

    Help with truss rod-Squier Jazz

Thanks Pica, your probably right but I enjoy messing with this stuff and like to keep it at home if at all possible. Thanks for the links, Rocky. I read the tutorials and don't have a problem with setups. I have just never had a neck with the rod completely loose before. I don't think I...

    Help with truss rod-Squier Jazz

I tried this in the luthiers forum but got no reply, so thought I would post here. I traded for a Jazz today. The kid had the truss rod backed completely off untill the neck was bowl shaped at the fretboard. I don't know how long it has been this way. (I asked him why he did that and he said...

Help with truss rod- Squier Jazz

I just swapped for a Squier Jazz. The kid had the truss rod completely loosened and bass was strung to pitch! Silver Bassman head as loud as 100 watt SS?

Thanks again everyone. We don't play real loud and no big venues at all, but the SWR I have now just BARELY cuts it. I will probably just keep looking for another amp. I was just hoping I could use one amp for both instruments. Save me from hauling 2 amps around. Thanks, Casey

Silver Bassman head as loud as 100 watt SS?

I've found an old '67 or '68 Fender bassman Silverface with the AB165 circuit (I believe it's 50 watts) in really great shape. It has a 2x15" Fender cab with it. I've read the threads about tube watts versus solid state. I have no experience with this. Anyone know if one of these in this...

Need advice- 2nd amp... B-15, Mesa or ?

Thanks Jimmy. Do you think the Vt pedal would go through our PA? I have played through the multi direct to the PA but didn't like the sound. Don't know if that was the lousey sounding pedal or just going straight in to the PA. We have pretty decent speakers, but with all that has to run...

Need advice- 2nd amp... B-15, Mesa or ?

Well, I thought about getting a Tech 21 VT pedal and running it into an amp, but I'm not really sure about that. A guy gave me a Digitech multi pedal and I really don't care for it. It adds alot of noise into my signal (it is a cheap multi, but I think I may not have that problem with the Tech...
