Neck dive on a p-style bass

Hey guys,i have a peavey milestone ii bass, which has basically a precision style body. I love the way the neck feels, the fact that its super light (which I suspect is part of my problem), but it neckdives like crazy. I want to fix it for free or cheap. I need new tuners, since one is pretty...

The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

Sure thing man. Here's the ground circuit, direct from the 9v to the jack. I pulled the jack out so it's easier to see

The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

When it rains, pours friends. I bought a pack of radio shack 9v connectors, and have attatched 2 different ones to the bass (with wiring caps) and the problem is still persisting. The only way im gettingn sound out of the bass is to remove the negative half of the battery from the connector, and...

The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

Welp, I figured it out. It is the 9v connection. I finally managed to wiggle it enough to get a little sound. Now I just need to take it in to get replaced. So glad I know what's wrong, and thanks so mush for all your guys' help!

The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

Yup, I do have a volmeter. Should I start at the leads to the jack, and work my way back to the pickup, or start with the pickup and work my way towards the jack from the pickup? No good techs down here, closest I know of other than music-go-round/guitar center is in PA.

The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

Thanks psp. Is anyone seeing a difference? Im not seeing anything. The fact that my knobs are so loose is worrisome, though. Even if it's not the problem, and i usually keep them cranked, it just seems...off, you know?

The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

Hey psp, what are the pots on yours like? Mine are super loose, looser than any other bass I've ever played, so I was wondering if that was typical.

The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

Alright, so i tried that, and no dice. I would get a little feedback, but no sound. Also, took off the battery, and put my thumb over both sides of the 9v connector, and was gettingm feedback. Not sure if it's a correct conclusion, but tp me, that indicates that the connection is sound. Am I off...

The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

Here's some pictures of the electronics. I got the best ones i could with my phone, and honestly, since i've never had a preamp in my basses, I'm not too sure what i'm looking for. All the connections looked solid to me though.

The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

Alright guys, so the XB-500 came, and there's an issue. Cosmetically, everything's great (especially after a deep cleaning), as good as I could expect from a 20 year old bass. However, I'm not getting any sound. I first started to worry when I realized the pots were incredibly loose, they spun...

The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

See, stuff like this is why I'm pumped to be joining the gang. So much knowledge on an under appreciated brand. My buddy had a Washburn hollowbody that whipped the @ss of our lead guitarist's 335. I'll definitely give you guys a write up and hopefully a demo when I get the bass. Waiting's always...

The Official Washburn Club (Part 3)

No doubt, and for $188.93 shipped it seems like a killer deal. I'm pumped for my first 5 string. Does anyone know an approximate value on these? I checked ebay and the like, but couldn't find this specific version of the XB-500. They all seemed to have jazz p'ups instead of the soapbars.

    Removing sharpie from headstock

Hey guys, I'm thinking of buying this Squier J from my local goodwill. It's pretty cheap, but the problem is that it has this sharpie marking on the headstock: As you can see, they sanded through the poly, and logo, and wrote of the bare wood. Is there a way to get this off? Would it all...

Thunderbird style basses on the market

I kinda like the spector legend X, since it is a bolt on, though I wish it came in solid colors. I'm not too keen on Set, and thru necks, since I like the flexibility of being able to remove/shim the neck.

Thunderbird style basses on the market

Thanks so much for the reply, but the Kauer stuff is actually a bit out of my price range. I was looking to top out somewhere around 700, maybe 1000 if it's something I really like. Those are pretty, but too rich for my blood. I also tend to prefer bolts ons, and solid colors,as opposed to...

Thunderbird style basses on the market

Hey guys. I wanted to know if there are any companies out there making basses with T bird style bodies, but without the conventional T bird features like a thru neck, sunburst, and Soapbars. Basically I want to have a bass that is a throwback to the 80's T Bird copies. It seems like a lot of...

    Peavey T-40 wiring help

Does anyone have a different T-40 wiring diagram, or a quality picture of a loaded t-40 pickguard with "clean" wiring? I have a PDF of the T-40 manual and wiring diagram that came out back in the day, but I'm not a big fan. I really like the Duncan style wiring diagrams. They're clean...

Anyone want to weigh in on this?

It looks pretty nice, and 1200 isn't bad for a '74 Jazz. My only hangup is that if he's willing to lie (poorly) about how he got the bass, what else could he be lying about? Busted truss rod, faulty/aftermarket electronics, hell, it could be stolen. I'd rather buy off eBay for some dough, and...

What's next on you GAS list ?

Nothing too special, just a black MIM P bass, preferably with a maple neck. A Geddy Jazz is a close second I'm gonna be laying down some tracks on a new punk album, so I figure "what better fits the bill than a p bass?"

    chris wolstenholme signature bass

If I were you, I'd go with a Fender Jazz. It does everything you need and more. Chris Wolstenholme played a Jazz for the majority of Muse's existance. They're great for finger-style, pick-style, slap, fuzz tones, and any genre.

Beautiful 5 string P bass on Ebay...I think I'm in LOVE!!!

To me, it's not worth it, but to someone who always plays 5's it's pretty nice. Plus it's got a P/J set of barts, so you know it sounds killer. With the stain on the body, it has a kind of boutiquey look to it, but I'm not really a fan, again, it's all personal preference.

    Late NBD!! 1983 Peavey T-20

Cool bass, with a cool story behind it. I've never much cared for the looks of t-20s (Never like the crooked super ferrite pickup in a p-ish guard), bit it's cool that you saved it from the pawn shop.

    help choosing a cheap bass

Of those choices, if you're deadset on going new, I'd get a starter Ibanez. For the price, they have the best sound and feel in my opinion. That said, I'd recommend looking for a cheap squier VM on craigslist. Even better if you could find it is a used Peavey Fury. They're a p bass knockoff that...

Shouldn't threads like this be against TB rules?

I feel like these threads should be allowed to exist. I believe that they provide valuable information. Say that some kid sees a "Stingray" on one of those sites, buys it, and ends up getting ripped off by some guy in China, either by getting a POS bass, or nothing at all. These sites don't act...

Do you know where he got those from? I've been gassing for a ric copy, but I don't want one with all the fake RIC stuff, and serials on it. And I don't wanna overpay for a dubious 70s copy of eBay. Plus, having something shiny and new would be nice

    Dressing Alike, Yuk!!!

I've always wanted to do a gig wearing suits and skinny ties a la The Knack. I think that bands should dress in clothes appropriate to the venue. If there's any doubt as to what you should wear, just think about what the audience will be wearing, and dress accordingly. Biker gig? Wear Jeans...

Signature basses, what do you think?

I would only buy a signature instrument if I could justify its price based on its merits as an instrument. If not, then it's no deal, but if so, I would jump on it. For instance, I am a fan of Duff McKagan, as well as Adam Clayton (laugh if you must). I like Duff's signature fender, as it has a...

What's the most epic fail of a train wreck you've ever witnessed? Plus a lesson.

Last saturday, we were playing "If You Could Only See" by Tonic. A few measures past the first chorus, we all lose our places at the same time. It took us about 20 seconds to get back on track, but it felt like hours. We actually got a decent reaction for it. I learned two lessons, or rather...

Who has a cheap bass but consider it to be a great instrument?

I still love my ibanez jumpstart GIO bass. It's super comfortable, well built for a 200 dollar bass, and it sound pretty good to boot. I'm never letting it go. And it's still my workhorse. Just gigged it Saturday night in fact.
