those screws were a sort of crude way of adjusting string height. if it feels right, they're ok, but the action can be raised or lowered with the screws. Love those Hags

My first bass was a Hagstrom Swede. I still have it, along with 7 or 8 more I've collected over the years. I have an HIIBN, 2 Swedes, an H 1 A and and H 1 B, a Viking and a new FXB 530, plus several vintage Hagstrom guitars. I'll put up a few pics if i can get them to work.

You might check out the new Hagstrom HB 4. It's a lightweight bass with a 30.75" scale. You can find new blems for under $300 on ebay. It's a great guitar for the money.
